I've read, that since the law was expanded in Florida, the number of cases where the offender escapes a murder charge by pleading self-defense, has risen from 13 to 36 in one year.

I love how they keep referring to Zimmerman as a "white hispanic". I think it's ok to say mixed race these days.

Anywho, it's really the fault of local law enforcement. This whole "media guessing"/race card charade could have been limited if they had just processed things properly. Arrest the shooter, check out the scene, canvas the neighborhood, etc. Then let the courts decide whether it was self-defense or not. Like they've (Florida police) done in every other self-defense case. There are several similar cases, in Florida, pending at the moment, though none that were handled as poorly as this one.

Julison, the Martin family spokesman, said today that the teenager was in Sanford because he was suspended from school last month for having a baggie that contained marijuana residue in his book bag. The family believes the suspension had nothing to do with the killing, he said.

Zimmerman assaulted a police officer and Martin was a high school thug. However, neither of those things actually matter in this case. All that matters are the events of that night. I think people tend to forget that.
