I am thinking about travelling to Spain this summer for a week or so with friends. Any suggestions? beach and night life is a must.
Last thing we managed to reach is Lloret De mar which is ~1 hour drive from Barcelona. So we get the benefit of both beach and night life.
I've never went to spain so if you know Lloret De mar and Barcelona please speak up on what they are really like.

Thanks

lloret is really amazing and so is barcelona. lloret is a completely tourist place, small town with practically no home citizens. there you have restaurant, caffe bar, night club, hotel, restaurant, caffe bar, night club. the beaches are good, sandy, lots of stuff to do there. the discos are really amazing, there are tons of them, just beware cause some are really expensive and some are really cheap. for example the most popular is disco "hollywood" and there i payed 7 shots of tequilla 50 euro!!!! 7 shots!!! that is way too much, where as in disco "tropics" i payed the exact same shots 7 euro!! in tropics all shots were 1 euro, beer was 3 euro. it is really cheap. you have a lot of strip joints as well, jamaican bar where you can get all sorts of things. ;) i was there 3 years ago and i had a fantastic time.

in barcelona i was a little less than a day. i saw the city which is really nice. lots of stuff to see, especially the fountains in the centre, trully remarkable. the city itself is really pretty, i can't comment on the night life though as i haven't been there that long. but be sure that the night life goes on in lloret, not in barca, especially during the summer. lloret is the place to go out.

oh and nou camp is amazing!

hope this helps. you should really go mate.

oh about the hotels, i was at the hotel "don juan" it's not expensive, i can't tell you how much as we got discounts for the amount. every hotel is faboulous on the outside, pools and shit. but on the inside is really average. not horrible but average.

THANKS MAN ALOT.. You really boosted my spirits.
I am looking at a hotel called Top Royal Beach. Do you know anything about it? It is said to be 150m away from the beach and 500m away from downtown lloret.
Was the hotel you stayed at on the beach? Does hotels there have private beaches or is it a sort of hotels all openning on the same long beach?

no i don't know it. but i think you don't know how small that place is, my hotel was 2 like minutes from the beach and 3 other hotels were 1 minute away from mine. what i'm trying to say is whatever you need it's close there. :D as far as i noticed there are no private beaches, there are lots of big beaches that all tourists share. but there is enough space, it's not too much crowded. maybe some hotels that were further away from mine, have some sort of private beaches but i doubt it, haven't seen it anyway.

you gotta also be carefull of the street salesman, there are a lot of them there, if they smell money in your pocket, RUN!! you can't get rid of them. :D

i was there for about one week at the end of august. the guide told us he's been going here for the last 5 whole summers and never once, not one day did it rain. no need to say it, our first two days rain poured down non-stop. :D but that was really bad luck, people say weather there is almost always perfect.

generally speaking, food, drinks and stuff there in stores are not expensive. you can buy a 1l bottle of sangria for less than 1 euro. :weee:

i'm not into watersports sorry, i was there for my high school excursion, sport was the last thing on my mind. booze and chicks were nr.1 priority. i remember once while we were walking to the hotel from the beach a chick called us up from her stand, she asked if we were interested in bungee jumping. we said yeah, but when she said the price we were like goodbye. i think she even said since were from croatia we'll get a discount from something like 80 euro(wtf??) to 65 euro. that was really expensive so we just left. if i recall correctly the billboard behind her was a price list, and as i remember most things were around 15-20 euro. i can't give you anything specific but it was water skiing and stuff like that.

street salesman, club owners and everyone are all in some sort of agreement with the tourist office in lloret so they know when a bunch of croatians(or any other nation) are coming, so they are all specifically nice to us, we got in night clubs free of charge, didn't have to wait in line and stuff like that.

about the beach part, i was only at 2 beaches, i'm sorry i don't know their names, i was pretty much drunk all the time, all i know is both were huge, sandy and had a volley ball field. :D

Can you please list (from what you remember) a must do/go and must not do/go @ lloret de mar?
e.g. Hollywood disco = avoid = too expensive for nothing
Tropics = recommended = good value for money
Or something like this = expensive but worth it

I've never been to spain and I hear its a blast. Just want to make the best out of this trip.

    Thanks

we sort of had a programme which we could have follow but it wasn't required. me and my mates didn't follow it, we were just on the beach and in discos, checking out girls and stuff, we weren't much for sight seeing. so i may not be able to help you out much, but from what i remember there were 2 things i ended up regretting.

marineland or aqualand, don't know how exactly it's called, it's one of the two for sure. anyway the name says it all, dolphin shows, numerous water falls, slides, supposedly it's great fun, even more if you're drunk. i can't tell you as i was drunk on the beach, i decided it's better to spend 20 euro on a few beers than some stupid swimming place. i was wrong, mistake nr.1

flaminco show, this i really regreted. you probably heard of it, anyway it's a local dancing, singing show. who ever went said not only is the show itself amazing, but the food and booze was just phenomenal and cheap. people came back aching, holding their stomachas cuz they got more than they can eat. waiters bringing you wine, sangria on the table constantly, you never have an empty plate at any time...it was really great and cheap as well, i think it was about 20, 30 euros. that was mistake nr.2

other than those two things i really don't know what else to say, everything in lloret is nightlife, beaches and stuff. in barcelona i was less than a day so i saw not much. nou camp is a must see, the bastards even charge the entrance 5 euro, even though there's no one playing. and the centre of barcelona is really pretty and a must see at night, when all the fountains are working, it's all really bright and amazing.

i'm sorry if i can't be of any more specific help, but i'm sure you'll understand, i was on my high school excursion. all i can tell you whatever you decide you won't miss out on lloret and barca that's for sure.

Barcelona is one of the pretties cities in Europe, if not the prettiest. Has a great nightlife. Have fun and dont forget to check out Gaudi's work (well thats obvious)
