that broken ankle of his.i dont know how long it will keep him out,but it might well keep him out of the world cup and that would be a HUGE blow to lippi and the azzuri.the replacement is there in the form of andrea pirlo, but there's no replacement for pirlo..or is there?and plus, pirlo is more of a deeper playmaker while totti roams much more forward.bad bad news for italy.for the sake of the azzuri,i hope totti recovers in time to make the world cup squad.

He's out for 2 - 3 months, by then it would be the end of the season. It is positive that he will be available for Lippi's squad as shown in this news

If Totti was really out I think Italy has to reshuffle the squad. Either Fiore, Del Piero or Maresca can play or Lippi can use a new formation. Despite Lippi's ability to reshuffle the squad, Totti's absence will definitely be missed.

For the Rome derby, I think Tomassi will be the captain.

Sadly yea, but u never know what will happen though. Fiore can be used instead, but a lot of shuffling is needed. Who knows Lippi may intend to call Panucci?

Another main concern is the CB and RB position. While the RB position can be made, there r not many replacements for Cannavaro and Nesta should 1 of them get injured. Materazzi couldn't make it to the world cup due to his attitude towards Mancini. Barzagli is an ok replacement, but I dunno who will fill the other spot.

Am I the only one who thinks that Totti will find a way to keep him from factoring in this World Cup whether he's injured or not?

Totti's gone. Let's face it. His injury is double: he broke his leg and he damaged his ankle ligaments. He will need at least 2 months before he can start training again. And we all know it will take at least 2 weeks of training before he's fit again. That would make it, at the very best, 2 months and a half. Considering the fact we were around the 20th of February when the injury occurred, Totti would have to wait until May before he can play football again. It just doesn't look good. Because even when he's able to play again he'll need a couple of weeks to regain match form. And the season will be over when Totti has recovered. The chances of Totti actually featuring in the World Cup look very very slim.

He is a great player and really deserves to be on the world showcase. That said, he's had no one else to blame but himself for his complete no shows in the big international tournaments of late. This injury at least gives him a better excuse than he's had previously for his failures.
