Italy’s Francesco Totti may be suspended by UEFA after he allegedly spat in the face of a Denmark player.

A Danish website had today published stills of the incident which were taken from television footage.

The Roma player appears to spit in the face of Christian Poulsen, an incident which neither the referee or his assistants saw.

Some reports claim that UEFA are now in possession of the video tape and are preparing to review it.

If they decide to take action then Totti could be handed a lengthy ban – one which could see him miss all or most of the Euro 2004 tournament.

UEFA have handed out heavy punishments in the past as Lazio defender Sinisa Mihajlovic is well aware of.

He was given an eight-match ban by UEFA after he spat in the face of Adrian Mutu during a Champions’ League clash against Chelsea.

Totti was expected to be the Azzurri’s main man this summer but his tournament hasn’t started well.

He was very disappointing in the 0-0 draw with Denmark, even claiming that his boots and socks were a contributing factor to his display.

UEFA has confirmed 3 match banns.

3 matches?! :irritate:

he getting off easily. fifa dont have the balls to ban him for a long time.

now if he was from a smaller nation and a lesser known player, how much would he have been banned for?

The ban has not been handed down yet, so of course it could be even longer than 3 matches. All of Italy jokes about how stupid the guy is, I guess there is much truth behind every joke.

Now Giovanni Trapattoni is forced to find a new set-up that can survive without his star player and there were already experiments on Wednesday afternoon.

The Coach fielded Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso, Cristiano Zanetti in midfield, with Alessandro Del Piero supporting front two Christian Vieri and Antonio Cassano.

you know that is not gonna happen man.
That's stupid. He deserves it, and FIFA should really show some consistency in their rulings :(

This is brillaint. UEFA is to hand down its decision at around 10-10:30am Thursday morning Portugal time.

I do not understand why the Italian Media think this is a bad thing. Totti is one of the most over-rated players going around.

I also do not understand why every player (except correclty Buffon) were criticised for the performance against Denmark and they said nothing bad about Totti. Most of the Italian media is based in Rome so thay all love him. Italy is better off without him.

After seeing the stills I expect FIFA to act accordingly. It would be ridiculous if they acted otherwise.

He will be banned not for three games, but for the whole eurocup 2004. Francesco Totti has showed, once again, that he is inmature, like he did with his gestures in Juve-Roma this season.
Its a shame for Italy that his more sparkling player is full of shit.
He is, also, contamining Cassano with is twisted way of being.

Guess who is, from now on, reponsible for Italy destiny and will be cruxified if the NT doesnt win the cup?...you`re right...
