MILAN ARE No. 1 IN THE CNN/WORLD SOCCER TOP TEN
    17 December 2002 11:27

MILAN - Milan have returned as the top-ranked club in the CNN/Sports Illustrated World Soccer Top 10. Real Madrid's hold on No. 1 after winning the World Club Cup lasted just one week: after allowing Lokomotiv Moscow to come back in a surprise 2-2 draw in the Champions League last game, the Spanish giants are now down to No 4. The Rossoneri, instead, stayed firmly on course for a spot in the knockout stage of the Champions League with a 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, courtesy of a Filippo Inzaghi strike early in the second half. Moreover, last Sunday, they enjoyed a 2-1 win at bottom club Como with goals from Massimo Ambrosini and Andriy Shevchenko to keep a one-point advantage in the Italian standings. That's why they deserve the head of the list.

    Here is the Top Ten:

    Rk. Team Country Pts.
    1 (2) AC Milan Italy 120
    2 (4) Manchester United England 83
    3 (3) Inter Italy 75
    4 (1) Real Madrid Spain 72
    5 (6) Valencia Spain 62
    6 (5) Real Sociedad Spain 56
    7 (10) Santos Brazil 43
    8 (6) Arsenal England 38
    9 (-) Lazio Italy 27
    10 (-) Porto Portugal 23
