while making my fantasy dream band, i realised there's just too many triffic guitarists (lead/rythmn and Bassists)

make a topten list of your idea of the best guitarists ever
from every aspect (technique, style, even attitude). Imagine as tho your a band leader having auditions for guitarists in your band.

My Top Ten Guitarists

Interesting that you think Hetfield is better than Hammet. I've always thought of Hammet as a better guitarist as I thought he played all the solos. Now I remember you once said that Hetfield sometimes is the leading guitarist. You don't happen to know in which songs he is?
I've never seen them live so I have no idea.

#10) Rik Emmett. Now I know what you're saying, "Who the fukk is Rik Emmett??", Well, does anyone here remember a canadian group that was fairly popular in the 80's called Triumph?? They had songs like "A world of Fantasy, Fight the Good Fight, Rock 'n Roll Machine, Never Surrender, Magic Power, Allied Forces, Somebody's out there, Follow your Heart"

Interesting list Sergio. I didn't include Clapton, as I feel much of his latest stuff is very... boring on the guitar side. Also I see that you've included several virtuoso, I wouldn't have guessed. And, it's good you included Page, nice save.

Well, yes, Hetfield plays the solo in "Nothing Else Matters", and the slow solo in "Master of Puppets". Also, I think he plays a solo in the intstrumental "Orion", but I'm not 100% sure of wich one. He also plays a really cool solo in "Enter Sandman" on a demo.

But to tell the truth, Hammet is a better guitarist. Technically. There's no doubt, he just simply is better as he can play faster, and more complicated stuff. That's why he plays the solos. But, I just love Hetfields style, and I think Hetfield is a superb rythm guitarist. I love them both in different ways.

But to be honest, I'm probably very unfair to Hammet. Sorry Kirk. Argh, I hate making lists...

Kirk Hammett is a prime example of a guitarist who has gotten by on reputation in the last 10 years. His style hasn't evolved at all, in fact, I think it's taken a step backwards.

From "Kill Em' All" to Re-Load, his style has changed enourmously, from Trash-Metal to Blues playing. Or if you want, from Kill Em' All to St. Anger, from only playing solos to playing no solos.

I don't know how good the change has been, but IMO change there has been.

Now I'm off to play curling, wish me luck!

I don't think he needed to evolve although he actually has as tarmpropp points out.
What's so great about Metallica is that they play real fast hardcore riffs but they also mix that with softer melodic parts. Hammet has proved that he can master both these techniques, he is a complete quitarist so to say.

i think Tom Morello of Rage Agaisnt the machine and now Audioslave deserves a mention, one of the best guitarist in the 90's without a doubt, a genius with guitar, can do some wicked thing with his tool....GUITAR
