Tiago and Poulsen are different players. I can see perfectly now why Ranieri preferred Poulsen over Alonso. he had faith in Tiago and Zanetti and took in Poulsen as a cover for Momo.

if poulsen was only meant to be cover then why were both he & momo the first choice pairing in the middle?

& also if ranierei had faith in tiago, y;d he try so hard to get rid of him in the summer?

Exactly, and Andy already answered this question. Tiago's appearances as of late are due to the fact that everybody is injured. Luckily, Tiago turned down a number of moves in the summer and now Ranieri can turn to a veteran instead of an 18-year-old to hold his midfield together amidst an injury crisis.

Tiago's contract kept Tiago here, not Ranieri's apparent "faith" in him.

i am glad tiago is doing so good right now and maybe he deserves to stay here more than poulsen does. but if we did not have tiago at this moment i dont think Ranieri would be starting Ekdal but he would have continued with Nedved in the CM position with Momo. Gio, DC or Sali could play LM.

But Tiago has been very important for us nonetheless

At least Tiago can complete passes. I'm sick of having a midfield that mindlessly gives the ball away on the simplest sort of passes that anybody and their mother could complete, except for Sissoko, that is. We need to have that consistent passing in the team so we can keep possession, something that Tiago does well. He does a better job keeping the ball than Poulsen, that is for damn sure.

But of course the same clowns who even admitted they didn't pay attention to Tiago before he came to the club will underrate the player. I'm glad to see that he's finally stepped up and brushed aside all that crap propagated towards him by the fans, media and even Ranieri. I certainly believe in Tiago because he's proved himself time and time again, and at least Lyon fans give him the respect he deserves.
I expected a lot more from Tiago, remembering how he was playing in Lyon. I saw in him what most people see in Alonso now, probably a lot more; from that expectation he has been poor and if the his present performances are the best he can do now and hereafter, then I am giving up on him.

I would only prefer Tiago over Poulson if Tiago plays like he did in Lyon or if Poulson isn't half as good as himself when he was in Seville.

I'm a fanboy if the guy plays good. He makes our team better, and by that I mean he's the best option we have. Even if poulsen was fit I wouldn't change things, (zanetti is a different story, but the guy won't be returning anytime soon) . Look at his stats in the last few games. He's averaging over an 80% pass completion. Tiago is smart with the ball, he doesn't force anything. If he can't make the pass he doesn't try, that's where him and poulsen stand apart. Poulsen will try passes he can't make, and 1 time out of 10 he'll make that perfect pass (like the one he made to iaquinta). I'd rather have someone who can keep possession over a guy who can't slow the pace of the game down. When you're up 1-0 its smart not to rush things.

Whether you like it or not, tiago adds more to the team than poulsen does. I don't think tiago's our savior, but as of right now he's the best available cm we got. We're playing better football (both offensively and defensively), and tiago might have something to do with that. Why change something when it's going so well?
I like the way you think :)

Juve show trust in Tiago Tuesday 18 November, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus have reportedly rejected Monaco's latest approach for midfielder Tiago Mendes after his recent upturn in form.

The Portuguese international had a miserable first campaign in the Bianconeri jersey and had looked set to leave in the summer.

But after turning down possible moves to sides including Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle, Tiago has finally shown some form of late and is starting to prove his worth in Turin.

Claudio Ranieri has chosen the 27-year-old to start the last four Serie A games and he has stepped up to the mark.

According to Tuttosport, Tiago's efforts have been sufficient to convince sporting director Alessio Secco to reject the possibility of selling the ex-Chelsea man in January.

The Old Lady are expected to review the situation in the summer when they could make a move for Werder Bremen ace Diego.

But Ranieri did always say that he thinks Tiago is a great player. He praised him numerous times and even said that it is a mistery to him as to why he doesn't perform. So, if Tiago suddenly started playing well, was Ranieri really at fault for Tiago's bad form last season?? (like you were implying) or was Tiago at fault?? I think Tiago was at fault more but the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Probably he needed a lot of time to adapt and Ranieri wasn't patient enough.

You are right Ikoninhosa. But not only CR even Gigli said we don't need new player for Jan 2007 as Tiago was improving. Also all players had good words for Tiago and that is how should be.

But for Andy, anyone who don't like Tiago is dumb ass even if someone plays like woman. The truth is Tiago was shit, but now he is getting better, and lets be happy for all of us, and our team. Let;s hope he will just get better and better.
I can dig stats properly if u want about Tiago, but its not as brilliant as u guys think.

Molinaro had 4-5 nice games too, but to some he will always be shit..
Double standards from some members i guess??
