The game that Tiago will play is on wednesday and i'm almost sure that he won't play all the game, so he will be ok to play on saturday...it's pretty much like a CL match...
Altough, IMO Poulsen should play... because against Inter we will need to defend more...

He won't play all game. But Portugal desperately needs to shake up their midfield. The team is in a crisis right now, and who better to bring in than Tiago. :p

I say we stick with tiago, not just because we're winning but because I think he's a better option than poulsen. Poulsen is good defensively but he gives the ball away far to often, he actually puts more pressure on our defense because he can't keep possession. Tiago keeps possession, he always makes a smart decision, and sometimes he comes up with a spectacular pass to get us going on the counter (he had one yesterday to send DP away). Although tiago might not excel at one thing, he is very solid in every aspect of the game. In recent weeks, he's even gotten back and made a number of challenges to win the ball back. We've even conceded less when tiago has played, so starting poulsen for defensive reasons doesn't make much sense. Sissoko does enough work for 2 DM's anyways.

i must admit that i did not see the last game, but the games before i did see and the tiago i saw was not the one you describe.

you do exaggerate alot . . . always not only the right, but also a smart decision, never gives the ball away and comes up with a spectacular pass ?

i do not say that tiago did play bad in the last games, but you seem like a fanboy to me.

- in fact he does loose a ball no and then, because he is not focussed sometimes and when an opponent gets to him to fast he is not always there with his mind to go past him (it's not bad, but you are wrong to say he never looses a ball)

- he does play the coward passes pretty often ... if that can be described as "smart" is debatable . . . for my liking there could be more of the passes that bring his teammates in a good position instead of only playing sideways or backwards.

- spectacular passes you say ? the "spectacular" passes you tell us are mediocre, when you compare them with the pass poulsen gave iaquinta in dortmund or zanetti gave del piero last season ...

i'll repeat myself ... i do not say tiago is crap, but you write as if tiago was a bargain (in regards how he plays and adds to the team), while me personal opinion is still that what he provides in a match is still not worth what we payed for him.

ranieri will have enough time to see if tiago is to exhausted to play against inter and as always he will make a smart decision

(now that was an exaggeration from me ;) )

I'm a fanboy if the guy plays good. He makes our team better, and by that I mean he's the best option we have. Even if poulsen was fit I wouldn't change things, (zanetti is a different story, but the guy won't be returning anytime soon) . Look at his stats in the last few games. He's averaging over an 80% pass completion. Tiago is smart with the ball, he doesn't force anything. If he can't make the pass he doesn't try, that's where him and poulsen stand apart. Poulsen will try passes he can't make, and 1 time out of 10 he'll make that perfect pass (like the one he made to iaquinta). I'd rather have someone who can keep possession over a guy who can't slow the pace of the game down. When you're up 1-0 its smart not to rush things.

Whether you like it or not, tiago adds more to the team than poulsen does. I don't think tiago's our savior, but as of right now he's the best available cm we got. We're playing better football (both offensively and defensively), and tiago might have something to do with that. Why change something when it's going so well?

someone posted the tiagos pass statistics and it was similar to sissokos, but sissoko did make more successful passes. so if sissoko is so bad, tiago must also be or both are quite ok. looking at this statistic there is not that big difference between sissoko (where i always read his passing was terrible) and tiagos passing... but that was just two games ago. . .

i would not say that tiago does add more to the team ... i think if you do add offensive and defensive qualities together i think poulsen has greater qualities.
that is to say poulsen is a better defender, than tiago is an attacking midfielder or playmaker.

as he is the only CM who is available that is correct. . .
if you want to play with a cm, than tiago is the right thing.

i don't say that we need to change this system.

i think ranieri will make his own thoughts about to use either poulsen or tiago...

apart from tiagos and poulsen fitness there are two obvious scenarios:

option 1:
ranieri thinks juve can compete with inter and even have the chance to have more possession, than tiago was the player to field

option 2:
ranieri thinks we would be bullied around in midfield and lose this battle if we try, than playing a tactical game with players that can withstand power in midfield and can defend he should field poulsen.

our experience with the games against real madrid where we did defend most of the time to strike suddenly and clinical make me think we will opt for the later option

I support you in this morra. This is why Tiago fits well in italian foortball. And he will only be better with time. In many ways this is his first season in serie a, and hes adapting quickly:wink: . He makes dirty balls clean -a needed quality in every team.

if you're referring to last game then yes, I believe tiago had a 95% pass percentage and sissoko was around there too. But if you watch sissoko pass, he usually plays the simple ball to a player right beside him, and then he'll take the return pass, and pass it off quickly again. This is why pass percentage can be misleading. So tiago's pass percentage might be lower than sissoko's because he makes harder passes. Anyone can make a 3 foot pass to a player standing right beside him. Tiago understands the game. For example, he knows when to switch play, he knows when to force a pass and when not to. If you through pass percentages out the window, tiago has a lot more finesse and is more accurate than sissoko.

that is to say poulsen is a better defender, than tiago is an attacking midfielder or playmaker.

But you can't break down a players abilities like that. Tiago is a complete player, he does everything equally well. Where as poulsen is better in some categories and worse in others. You can't say sissoko is a better player than neddy because sissoko is better defensively than neddy is offensively. Neddy does everything really well.

If we're going to play that style of game, on the counter, then fielding tiago might be a good idea also. We can break out faster with a better passer. Let's not forget tiago isn't poor defensively either. I think with tiago as his partner sissoko has been given the job to run all over the pitch. He's not covering one specific area, he's literally pressuring everyone. But when poulsen's on the field, he plays different, his role is changed because we have another defensive minded player on the field. Whether that's a good thing, I don't know. We're playing well, tiago's playing well, and sissoko's playing well. If we introduce poulsen (who by the way won't even be close to match fit) might be a little risky.

i doubt whether its possible to play tiago anyway... after Genoa he's recovering from a muscle strain and he's got all this travel. Would be dumb to play him especially against inter.
If there was a choice surely it would be tiago, he's getting better every game. Before his good form everyone was complaining about lack of creativity in the midfield and that poulsen was unnecessary.

At least Tiago can complete passes. I'm sick of having a midfield that mindlessly gives the ball away on the simplest sort of passes that anybody and their mother could complete, except for Sissoko, that is. We need to have that consistent passing in the team so we can keep possession, something that Tiago does well. He does a better job keeping the ball than Poulsen, that is for damn sure.

But of course the same clowns who even admitted they didn't pay attention to Tiago before he came to the club will underrate the player. I'm glad to see that he's finally stepped up and brushed aside all that crap propagated towards him by the fans, media and even Ranieri. I certainly believe in Tiago because he's proved himself time and time again, and at least Lyon fans give him the respect he deserves.

Tiago and Poulsen are different players. I can see perfectly now why Ranieri preferred Poulsen over Alonso. he had faith in Tiago and Zanetti and took in Poulsen as a cover for Momo.

I don't think Ranieri had faith in Tiago. He's just been playing because everybody is injured.
