Spurs Make Final Move For Tiago
Tottenham Hotspur have almost concluded talks with Juventus misfit Tiago over a move to White Hart Lane...
Juventus have reportedly accepted Spurs' bid for Tiago Mendes, with the London club now in talks with the player over personal terms.
These appear to be going well. Initially, Daniel Levy's journey to Turin was said to be in vain, as the Lilywhites were said to be unwilling to meet Tiago's reported wage demands of over £50,000 a week (67,000 euros.)
However, Italian sources now claim that the player is close to agreeing with the club a modified deal that would see him earn closer to £35,000 a week (47,000 euros), which is far more acceptable to the London club.
As such, once any other details are thrashed out, the player could be set for a transfer as early as this weekend.
Levy, joined by sporting director Damien Comolli, was attempting to lure the Portuguese midfielder back to the Premier League by promising to bring to an end his nightmare Serie A spell.
The 26-year-old, formerly of Chelsea, signed on with the Old Lady this summer from Lyon in a 13 million euro fee.
Having gained little return on their investment due to poor form and injury, Juve are keen to cut their losses on Tiago and will doubtless hope that negotiations between the player and Spurs bear fruit, as seems likely.
As for a transfer fee, figures between 9 and 13 million euros have been cited, but the exact terms of the club-to-club agreement remain undisclosed.
