Tiago Will Prove Himself – Gigli
Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli is convinced that midfield flop Tiago Mendes will prove his worth to the team.
Tiago was the Bianconeri’s big-money signing when he joined from Lyon last summer, and was expected to provide some much needed quality in the middle-of-the-park.
However the 26-year-old has been a terrible disappointment, making just 11 appearances, five of them starts, in Serie A this campaign.
Juventus tried desperately to offload the player during the January transfer window, however he stayed in Turin when a move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through at the last minute.
"I am convinced that Tiago has class - which has been highlighted by Mauro Camoranesi and he will also convince [Coach] Claudio Ranieri," said Cobolli Gigli.
"Tiago has probably in some cases not been granted opportunities by coach Ranieri because he is forced to go every time for the three points and has made other selections.
"However, I hope that there are other opportunities so Tiago can prove himself at Juventus."
Tiago has not featured since being substituted in the week 21 match against Cagliari, which Juve drew 1-1.
His chances have been further hampered by the signing of Momo Sissoko from Liverpool last month.
The Malian had his first start against Reggina on Saturday, but had a miserable night, as he was to blame for both of the Calabrian side’s goals, while he also missed a sitter from six yards out.
