Tiago staying, claims agent

The agent of Tiago Mendes has silenced rumours suggesting that his client could leave Juventus during the January transfer window.

The Portuguese international was the club’s biggest summer signing after they handed Lyon £9m for his services, but he’s struggled to settle and hasn’t really convinced Coach Claudio Ranieri of his abilities.

As a result, he’s unsurprisingly been associated with a loan move at the start of 2008 but Fiorangelo Calima claims that he’s going nowhere.

“I think he will stay at Juventus,” he told calciomercato.com. “An important investment was made for him and there must be a little more patience.”

A lot was expected of the former Chelsea man but Calima insists that the much-travelled star will come good in the end.

“There can be no doubts over his quality and ability,” the agent added. “It’s also not true that his style doesn’t adapt to the Italian game.

“He’s played many games for Benfica, Lyon and the Portuguese national side. He is someone who can play in all of the important Leagues without problems.

“It is only normal for a player to acclimatise to new surroundings and Italian football has its peculiarities. There are champions who adapt immediately and some who struggle a bit more.

“I think that Tiago’s main problem is a fitness one. Training over here in Italy is much tougher and intense than elsewhere. He wasn’t used to it.”

JORGE MENDES, "Tiago will not go away from Torino"

It is not true that Tiago feel bad to Torino. He need more time. If then situation would not improve, then is my duty to value other solution".
So the agent Jorge Mendes about portuguese midfielder, who at the moment has not found place in Juventus. Also during the friendly of Berna against Young Boys, the player, engaged for 13 million euros, has not reached the turning point of the season: out of rhythm, and teammates passed him the ball not so much. For him always bench for the moment and the time spend.

Tiago tipped to quit Juve
Monday 15 October, 2007
Tiago Mendes’ days at Juventus could be numbered, according to former Old Lady star Paulo Sousa.

The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder has struggled to settle in Turin since his arrival from Lyon this summer.

Despite assurances from boss Claudio Ranieri that he will be given time, Tiago is said to be unsettled with the Bianconeri and already considering his options.

“I think Tiago will have real trouble showing his ability at Juve,” Sousa insisted. “Life in Italy is tough for him.

“The Coach originally thought that he would play with a triangle in midfield and he was signed as he is very strong going forward.

“But now Ranieri is playing a flat four in the middle so he is expected to do more work defensively.

“The results are coming, but it makes things tough for Tiago as you need to feel that you know you can grow under a boss.”

I still have high hopes. We simply can't judge him from what we saw in friendlies games. He needs to get a few games, and after that we could said if he is a flop or not.
