Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be ready to turn to veteran France international defender Lilian Thuram in a bid to add some experience to his squad.

Wenger's young Arsenal stars have shown their class in the last couple of months of the season and they could cap a memorable campaign with victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final.

The studious Frenchman has never been afraid to give youth a chance and is likely to continue the policy next term, but he also believes they will derive great benefit from having an old head in the ranks.

Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure have major big-game experience, but Wenger feels the presence of a World Cup and European Championship winner could take the likes of Philippe Senderos, Emmanuel Eboue and Gael Clichy to the next level.

Wenger is a huge admirer of Thuram and reports suggest he may try and lure his compatriot to North London this summer.

Thuram could fancy a new adventure after six seasons with Juventus, but a potential stumbling block could be the 34-year-old's wage demands.

The defender is on a lucrative contract with the Old Lady of Italian football and Wenger would have to put together a superb package to secure his services.

Thuram has been very good this season apart from 2 games
He knows where to position himself, he defends with instinct and he has that winning mentality that lifts the whole team

He deserves our ultimate respect and admiration

I'm not sure if I buy these latest Arsenal rumours, but what I'm sure of is that he's going to be replaced this summer, and at the age of 34 - I would agree that the time has come..

Thank you Lilian Thuram, for 5 years of great service!!

I agree he is a good positioning CB, that is not what I am talking about.

He is great mentally, but his physical attributes are declining too quickly to really do well in the Serie A.

I think he was not his best in almost every CL game I saw this season and in at least one or two Serie A games.

My man of the match against Lazio a couple of weeks ago..
mine too..

i know he didnt have the best of seasons but the difference between him and kovac is that he gives u a sense of security in the back. And he has a huge presence as well, a presence that could be felt by canavaro, puyol and even terry.

I think his stumbling block this season was his old age considering he has played soo many games.

sell him or not ?if we get a good deal and a new defender why not, otherwise no.

You can sell Thuram for two million for all I care. He's one of the most overrated centerbacks in Europe these days and is not close to the top ten. Moreover, it makes no sense to me that he wore the Captain's armband for the better part of the past two years when Del Piero was not available...instead of it being handed to the next in line Zambrotta...another ridiculous mistake by our wonderful Fabio Capello.

Well, he isn't getting any faster, and he seems to have lapses in concentration from time to time. Ofcourse if we sell him, we'll definetly need a very good replacement and a back up player, cause we're stretched kinda thin when it comes to central defenders.

You didn't watch Juve a lot from 01-05 did you?

and as for 05/06, he's been solid - which is all you really can ask of a 34 year old, don't you think?

We're winning the league and he has DEFINATELY played his part

now thats a bit too harsh andy. thuram may be not the best cb that played for us, but he certainly isnt pramatti or legrottaglie, as one might get impression from your post.

Yea he did, Andy is just talking about the last year or year and a half when he has dropped.

He is not talking about 5 or 6 years ago when he actually was one of the best in the world.
Does Andy have people answering for him now, what is this? Hehe

It's natural to "drop" when you reach that age, but despite this he's been good.

It's a beautiful thing, very admirable

No, I didn't watch Juve that much from 03-05...I only watched every single match we played..

He was the best right-back in the world prior to 2003 for Juventus, however the Thuram that has played centrally over the past two years has made several crucial errors in Europe and has been saved time and time again by his counterpart Cannavaro. He's 34 years old and I do not want him starting for Juventus next season because he simply won't be good enough...his errors this season have been evidence enough. the difference between the Thuram center-back and the Thuram right-back are as clear as night and day.
