I dunno, I'm just saying. I wonder if Beck could move to the left.

Otherwise, he seems like the better move considering the position we're at right now. VdW would probably command bigger wages too.

Selling Chiellini? Its so counterproductive selling your best player.
Not always, i.e. Milan selling kaka and now they are winning serie a, or inter selling ibra and they won the cl after years of trying. So selling your best player i agree is not usually the best, and i definitely i don't wanna sell chiellini, if the money is spent wisely it can reap benefits in the present or near future.

We are not in Milan's or Inter's position; they are far ahead of us. We can't afford to sell our best players, particularly not with this joke of a board we have, who will probably replace Chiellini with some never was defender.

I agree with you, to an extent. I was just pointing to the fact that you can't make a blanket statement saying it is counterproductive to sell your best player, because that is not always the case. Let me pose to you an extremely hypothetical question if you have a player like messi that is in a club like lets say brescia and he is worth 100m, do you keep him, or do you sell him and buy 10 players worth 10 million each and make your squad that much more competitive? Look football is a business and you make the best decisions based on what is best for stakeholders, and naturally that coincides with having the best team you can have. Look at Udinese for example, they have grown and developed talent year upon year and started selling their best players, Iaquinta 12m, Quagliarella 16m, Dossena 9m in the past for good value and now Sanchez, Isla, Inler. They have moved up and up the table, and are probably going to be in CL next year. I believe we should keep Chiellini, at a price however, if another team offers us an amount that if, and that's a huge if, especially for our board no less, is invested wisely enough to make our team better than we should take it and not disregard it on the fact that it's not beneficial to sell your best players.

There is a lack of quality defenders, and our board make suspect decisions as it is. In this case, selling Chiellini would be a disaster.

We aren't Brescia! We are a European force, or at least used to be, with a huge global following. We don't need to sell to improve the team. If anything, we should always be looking to add more quality, not dispense with what little quality we already have.

That's the key we used to be. Until our starting 11 has the best players in each of their positions then their is always room for improvement! As you said we should always be looking to add more quality, but sometimes the only way to make a bump in quality is to give up a piece. My point is that, I don't believe any of our "quality" players are unsellable, however it would have to be at a very high price, and one that would increase the overall quality of our team.

But acquisitions like Martinez, Pepe, Motta and Toni don't really inspire confidence that it would be the case if we sold one of our few quality players now does it? So ideally playing safe would be better.

Lol no none of those inspired confidence, and with our management my point is probably moot because we don't use the money from sales wisely. But bear with me, if we had a competent management, and lets say we received a 60m bid from mancity or real, though improbable not nearly as impossible as you might think, and spent that 60 million on subotic 20m, hazard 20m, Van der Wiel 12m, Sahin 18 m = 70 m (we'd chip in 10m from our own pocket) For that one player we got 4 high quality players. Yes Chiellini is better than subotic, however what Van der Wiel would add to our defence and hazard to our wing and sahin more than compensates for the rest! Now those prices our estimates but you get my drift.... I want this team to get better, even if that means giving up our best player

Yes I know what you mean, and I agree. It's just that I don't trust the board to do any shrewd deals anytime soon.

id rather get a proper left back, than start experimenting with one to convert him to another position, this is what our season has been based upon defensively and it has failed for the most parts miserably

I'd take him eyes closed even though Fred hates him.:D So are Milan really gonna get Kaka back? We really should throw a spanner in the works & try to lure him here. The guy would totally transform our attack.:tuttosport:
