Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi will agree a contract extension with the club until 2015 - unless Juventus decide to make a move for the player in the current transfer window.
Goal.com Spain understands that the Italian international, who became the Yellow Submarines’ record goalscorer courtesy of his double strike against Valencia in the Copa del Rey on Thursday evening, is currently in negotiations over a new deal.
However, should Juve show an interest in taking him to Italy in the winter market, he would consider a switch to Serie A in favour of remaining at El Madrigal.
Rossi, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2012, told the media yesterday: “My representative and I are speaking with the club and we are talking about the option to extend my contract. This is something that you will see in the coming days.”
Juventus have lost key forward Fabio Quagliarella to a long-term knee injury and have long been linked with a move for the former Manchester United attacker.
With Alessandro Del Piero also nearing the end of his career, coach Luigi Del Neri is in search of a long-term successor, however doubts have been raised over whether the former Sampdoria boss believes that the 23-year-old is the answer.
Furthermore, the Turin giants’ decision to acquire Luca Toni from Genoa may mean that any proposed move is put on hold until the summer, clearing the way for Rossi to commit his future to Villarreal, for the time being at least.
