Juventus owner John Elkann and chairman Andrea Agnelli have decided to keep four key players who are currently on loan at the club.
Playmaker Alberto Aquilani (26), winger Simone Pepe (27) as well as forwards Alessandro Matri (26) and Fabio Quagliarella (28) will be signed*on a permanent basis by July for a total amount of 37.5 million Euros.

So when it was said that we'd sign a support striker and a midfielder in the summer, Marotta was referring to Quag and Aquilani?
Where's that from?

Aquilani (16m), Matri (15.5m), Quag (10.5m), Pepe (7.5m) = 49.5m

That's what I say. You could possibly sign Sanchez and Neymar for that.

And hell, that sum doesn't even include a freakin' defender.

Pepe isn't worth anything as far as I'm concerned.
if we take out the players we have on loan this season we are left almost without a team we do need to somehow add some meat to the flesh, and as i see it these 4 are just the start of it.

Waste of money once again. Take that 50 million and sign 2 world class players.

Exactly, we need difference makers, thats something we've been lacking since DP, Nedved and Trezeguet got old. We need quality players that you could lean towards when you need something out of the ordinary just like Etoo gives Inter, Zlatan gives Milan etc etc. We could easily get 2 amazing players for 25m each. I mean even Marotta has said that this team is in serious need of QUALITY but all we're doing right now is spending that money on quantity. Instead of signing 2 WC players we sign 3 good players and one useless. We could manage without Quag, Aquilani and Matri if we used the money the right way.

Pepe should not be bought, especially for 7.5 mill. Quag's a bargain.

I'm neutral about Matri and Aqua. I'd definitely get a duo of Pastore and Sanchez over those four though.

Honestly, at this point I wouldn't buy Pepe OR Aquilani. Aquilani hasn't been playing well enough to earn a 16M price tag. Quagliarella and Matri have contributed alot for us this season, and they are the only one's that deserve a spot on the team.

If we dropped Aquilani and Pepe we'd save 23.5M. We could almost buy Rossi, Neymar, or Pastore for that kind of money.

still that doesn't answer my question as to how else are we going to fill our squad in terms of depth

We would certainly have a team. If you don't sign the four aforementioned players along with Motta and Rinaudo, we'd be left with this side at our disposal (including the hypothetical signings of Pastore and Sanchez, along with bringing back Giovinco):

Chiellini
Grosso
Barzagli
Bonucci
Grygera
De Ceglie
Sorensen

Melo
Sissoko
Brazzo
Marchisio
Martinez
Krasic
Giovinco
Pastore

Iaquinta
Del Piero
Toni
Sanchez

Buffon

Sorensen - Bonucci - Chiellini - DC

Melo - Marchisio

Krasic - Pastore - Sanchez

Toni

Just with those two signings alone we become a better team. Considering we are probably going to sign a couple other players besides the aforementioned loan option players, guys like Beck and Bastos, we might be able to make this work. Sign Beck or another RB and an LB instead of Bastos, bring back Ekdal and Giovinco, and we'd have a vast improvement over this year, IMO. This is in spite of the weak group of forwards above.

One could throw out Sanchez or Pastore and sign another world class player instead for another position, like Mascherano, and we'd still have a better side than we do now, in my view.

This route isn't the exact route I'd take though. I'd probably sign Matri or Quag and Aquilani and try to sell the leftover deadweight to raise cash. But signing all four of them along with Pepe is simply wasting too much capital for their ability.

50m on Pepe, Quag, Matri and Aquilani and then also 4 other new quality signings as Marotta promised us? Thats a lot of money for a club thats been screaming about not having money for a whole year.

Subs of Pepe's quality should not cost 7.5 mill. 2 at most and there's plenty of mediocre Italians practicing their trade in the lower teams.
we talking in euros here? because 7.5 mill euros is not that much for someone who has his uses or at least a decent deputy, you couldn't buy sh*t for 2 mill unless you're extremely lucky

we certainly have money, its just we have to wait till this summer, last summer was about building the foundations again, which is why i said last summer not to get your hopes high on several major signings
