today's link;
apparently the new triad have met and talked 'bout the mercato and r basically going for quality not quantity.so, they're looking for 2 wide players,a CB,a midfielder and a CF.so,Dreams? Kjaer or Bonucci in CB, Ribery or Robben for the flank position, Palombo or D'Agostino in midfield and Pazzini or Dzeko for the front. amauri and melo could be given a chance for next season and diego and giovinco will be sold for the hihest bidders
sounds promising..................

Sounds stupid.
We don't need CM, we don't neeed Ribery/Robben (we need winger/s, but not them), and we NEED fullbacks.
And selling Diego is the most stupid thing in this "strategy".

Well, a CM is not our biggest need, but in all actuality we need a Regista/Non destroying CM badly.

The best example of that was when Melo and Sissoko both had suspensions and we won 3-0 against Bari. Marchisio, Poulsen and Candreva actually played football in the 3 man midfield.

you don't need a regista in 4-4-2...we've not been that kind of team in a long time.
You could be right, but I will say that there is not really a space for one sided midfielders(Sissoko types) in the absolute top in a modern game. Even in a 442.

Pace winning over destruction, and the combination wins it all(inter). Take a look at a guy like Schweinsteiger in Bayern who are being used almost as DM.

Futhermore, I don't think any of Melo or Sissoko fits a 442 that well.

I think Melo is good for 4-4-2, the guy's good with the ball at his feet, it's just his decision-making that is questionable.
That's a problem in all formations. I do agree, though, that Melo is better than Sissoko in a 442.

I'd like a midfield with D'ago/Aquilani, Melo, Marchisio, Poulsen, that would be good for Del Neri with 4 like that to choose between for 2 spots.

We need a regista if we are to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation next season. And even if we'll field that formation, that won't be the first position that needs upgrading. Defenders and wingers is what this team desperately needs.

I agree, although I do have high expectations for the forthcoming mercato.
Glad to see someone's optimistic.

Hmm I don't see us making any forts this summer Aush!
Neither, we can hope... I've just gone through Sampdoria's past transfers these were interesting:

07/08: +8.955.000£
Antonio Cassano (Real Madrid)
Salvatore Foti (Vicenza Calcio)
Hugo Campagnaro (FC Piacenza)
Reto Ziegler (Spurs) 1.800.000 £
Vincenzo Fiorillo (Samp Primavera)
Daniele Padelli (AC Pisa 1909) *

06/07: +234.000£
Christian Maggio (AC Florenz)
Fabio Quagliarella (Ascoli Calcio)

05/06: -450.000£
Marco Borriello (AC Milan) - free transfer

04/05: -1.620.000£
Andrea Gasbarroni (US Palermo)
Vitali Kutuzov (AC Milan) 1.350.000£

03/04: -3.600.000£

Aimo Diana (Reggina Calcio)
Antonio Floro Flores (SSC Neapel)
Luca Antonini (AC Milan) - 3.600.000£

-

Conclusion: Meh. He's made some good transfers, it's encouraging to see that he steals the better players from smaller clubs. Hopefully we will be able to do the same from Palermo, Lazio, Udinese etc..

I think it's only natural that now he's at a bigger club he'll step up his game following some more than good mercato's at a smaller less ambitious club.

indeed, it make me chuckle to see some posters and the media reporting him making deals for half-assed players and turning our club into a Chievo or something.
