Chivu was the last great defender that came out of the Dutch league if I remember correctly. Since then it has been the likes of Boulahrouz, Mathijsen, Heitinga etc. Though Vermaelen has been surprisingly good for Arsenal in his first season.

With that said, I wouldn't go for Douglas . Subotic, Tasci, Bonucci, Kjaer are all realistic targets we should look at before considering Douglas.

Personally I'm not a fan of Tasci but that's a little harsh. I often had the chance to scout him as I'm living in Germany and he showed his potential repeatedly. I agree,however,that we shouldn't sign him.
