Atletico want cut-price Tiago
Thursday 1 April, 2010
There may be problems in Atletico Madrid’s proposed signing of Tiago Mendes on a permanent basis from Juventus.
The Spanish club netted the Portuguese on loan in January with the option to buy outright for €8.5m in the summer.
Although the capital giants want to keep a hold of the midfielder, who has quickly settled in La Liga, they want him at a cut price.
However, Juventus are unwilling to lower their valuation given that they paid significantly more than that for him in the first place.
Tiago arrived from Lyon in the summer of 2007 for a massive €13m, a fee that he has had trouble living up to in Turin.
The former Chelsea player seems willing to end his Italian nightmare though after admitting as much last week.
“Atletico Madrid is a special club and I don’t want to go back to Italy,” said the Portuguese international.
“However, I still have two years left on my contract with Juventus and I can’t decide on what will happen.”
