This is what I have in mind as well. Instead of trying to plug many holes at once, we should focus on 1 area and get it right.

Even with a modest budget of €20m (we have spent more every summer since serie b) + sales we can strengthen the defence.

The following summer in 2011, we look for attackers. Attacking players will be very expensive, but by this time the stadium will have been completed and the board can bank on a substantial boost in revenue, meaning we should have a huge budget to spend on replacements for ADP and Trez.
We don't need to touch our midfield. If we sell Tiago/Molinaro then we can use those funds to get half of Candreva if he performs the way we hope. After that, Criscito, Rannocchia/Kjaer, and maybe Rafinha for our defense. 7m, 12m, 14m, respectively about 31m invested in the defense. Plus we have some players we can use as bargaining chips, not to mention a few loose ends we can sell to get more money back to spend on a striker...which IMO we will need.

I agree with you guys that defense should be our priority
but then we must also really focus on buying Silva, that kid is flying all over valencia's right wing. He's absolutely perfect for camo's replacement.
And with the way he's been injury pron the last coupla seasons, it's an absolute MUST.
Hope we don't blow this one up like xabi.

Also the WC in 2010 will complicate the mercato because 1 or 2 good performances at the world cup will double the price of some players and will triple the interest of the other clubs for some players.
Here i'm thinking more about some serie A players who are relatively unknown outside Italy, but who will play at the world cup and possibly attract interest of the big non-Italian teams.
So if we want to go after defenders from serie A, for example Kjaer, or even our Criscito, we should better act right now and start the negotiations, instead of waiting for the world cup.

The same goes for those from serie A who aren't defenders (for example Hamsik) or some other relatively unproven players with great potential from the other leagues who might shine at the world cup and become unreachable for us.

We aren't even seriously linked with Silva.
He definately is a great player, but I don't think he'll be interested in leaving Spain.
And if Valencia keeps performing like they are doing, why would he, they are third, we are fifth.
Valencia might need cash, but we won't be able to offer what they want for Silva.
Remember last season with Villa, offers from 40-60 MEuro were circulating, but they refused.

Good point, on the highlighted part, wasnt thinking about Hamsik as an example, but the extremely nice right wing talent that is Alexis Sanchez, if Chile has a decent WC, you can bet your ass its because this wizard will be on owning defenders all day long infront of the whole world.

Watching SA qfs, you cant imagine how he toyed with Brazil defenders, the kids potential is real, and there is quite a chance he will "explode" in the WC. So he is quite adequate example to your scenario.

OK Chester, but if we're willing to fix it once and for all we'd better be willing to negotiate/pay, we got trez we were good for the nest 8-10 yrs, we buy amauri/ IQ we wanna go after a striker in every mercato.
although with sucko i don't have any hopes i just said what i dream of.
I remember when moggi was after viera, at least for three years. arsenal weren't selling but moggi wouldn't let go until he got him.

:

We should try to get Dzeko

IN:
Dzeko 25m
Criscito 7m
Rannocchia 12m
Ariaudo 0m

44m

Out:
DC 8m
Amauri 15m
Zebina 4m
Legro 4m

31m

_________
Difference of 13m. Not that bad.
:

Dzeko! Aggghhh!
Worth a try at 25 mil. I think not.

And just what idiot would pay 15mil for Amauri?

Wingers are needed more than anything else.

We have to go for striker only if we'll sell Iq AND Amauri.
If we'll sell just one of them we don\t need to buy striker because we already have Immobile. So this money have to be used for strengthening our defence.
