I think they've been far too overhyped, the are very good players and their partnership is one of the best, but that says more about the sorry state of the CB partnership in world football, I can't think of 5 WC cb pairings atm.
Ferdinand-Vidic
Terry-Carvalho
Puyol-Pique
Chiellini-anyone
Considine-Foster

Yago is such an exciting player after watching him own the game against Milan. I would love to see him on Camo's spot in 4-2-3-1 cutting in from the right with his left foot :)

If we factor in the age, there'd be no reason as to why they couldn't surpass Vidic and Rio.

Also, debating football with fred

Well overhyped or not, they have proven themselves at the top level and have conceded a lot less goals than most top teams. So they are proven quality.

I don't know much about Kjaer as i haven't been watching enough Palermo games this season. But judging from the games against the big teams in Serie A and a couple of Dennmark games he looks like a really good CB. Chiellini is a monster defender too, so i think they could form a strong partnership. But they'd have to give 3 years of consistent top class defending to surpass the Rio -Vidic partnership. Not saying its impossible, just that it isn't an easy task.

Oh and i love debating football with the Zebra too :juventus:

Those two I'd agree with. Nice try sneaking in the Aberdeen boys :D

I think that we're going to see a rapid decline in Vidic-Ferdinande next season, if they're still together due to age injuries etc. But Chiellini is 25 and Kjaer is 25, they would have around 6 years together to be top of their game as a partnership, I firml believe that if we get Kjaer in January him and Giorgio will be the worlds leading CB pairing by 2013.

You don't think Pique-Puyol is world class?

That isn't even our No.1 CB pairing, just our current one. :D

A CB and an unbelievably fast fullback who is playing sweeper just now.

My Algerian friends who now watch the SPL a lot(by the SPL i mean old firm clubs), tell me that Bougherra is now the best CB in the league by a country mile. True or bias?

To be honest no I wouldn't yet, I think that there has been a noticable decline in Puyol in recent years and by the time he a Pique get that good it will only last a short while before he retires.
You're right about Puyol's obvious decline. He is still a top defender nonetheless. Pique on the other hand has been one of the worlds best defenders this season and in the second half of last season.

There isn't much competition.

I would say Andy Webster ex-Hearts and on loan at Dundee Utd from Rangers is very good now that he is fit again and he is probably of a similar standard. Aberdeen's Zander Diamond isn't far from that standard, but he has been injured all season.

Bougherra will be out of Rangers in summer at the latest because they need the money and they are fed up of him returning late from international games.

And, by my logic, Aberdeen's CBs must be better than him because the score over the two Aberdeen v Rangers games this season is 1-0 Aberdeen. :D

What i understand from all that is a reluctant admission that he is infact indeed the best CB in the league. :D

Yes i am aware of the problems he's faced because of late returns from NT football. The same happened with Belhadj at Pompey.

I'm not saying he's the best, but there probably isn't anyone better.

This does not mean that he is any good.

He has been made to look very foolish at times against Aberdeen's pacy forwards.

Kjaer has a 12 million euro release clause in his contract. So Zampa can't do anything if anybody offers him that and tbh 12 million is a great price, we should definitely go for it.
