Juventus’ search for a midfielder has been whittled down to Antonio Candreva and Real Madrid man Gago.

The Bianconeri have been left with a depleted squad after selling Tiago Mendes to Atletico Madrid and Cristian Molinaro to Stuttgart.

Injuries have ruled out Mauro Camoranesi, Christian Poulsen, Sebastian Giovinco, Martin Caceres, David Trezeguet and Vincenzo Iaquinta, while Momo Sissoko is on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

It’s reported that the shortlist is now down to two players, as Livorno President Aldo Spinelli already confirmed interest in Candreva.

“There are several top clubs who want Candreva during the January transfer window,” said the patron.

“These include Genoa, Sampdoria and Juventus. We’d be willing to release him mid-season if the right offer came along.”

The Italian international’s fate is not in the hands of Livorno, though, as he is owned by Udinese and only on loan to the Stadio Picchi side.

Newspaper Tuttosport claims that the other main target for Juventus is Gago, who could be released by Real Madrid for around £12m.

“The player is happy in Madrid, but is obviously honoured by a proposal like this,” said Gago’s agent Zoran Vekic.

“However, Real do not want to sell Gago, as it’s difficult to find 23-year-olds with this talent around.”[/FONT]
