The thing which annoys me is that people essentially assume Van der Vaart and Sneijder are pretty much the same because they both play AM. They couldn't be more wrong, Sneijder is more versatile as he is naturally double footed so he can play either wing and his vision can make him an more than adequate CM.
Van der Vaart on the other hand is much more of a roaming type of player with great speed, skill and flair. Osman gets it right when he says he is more of a forward, although I think his best positions are exlusively AM/AML
Yes he did play as support behind Olic but I never considered him much of a forward, I though he played more of a free role between striker and midfield.
Why does everybody ask you about Ligue 1 teams and players? Do you watch every Ligue 1 match religiously?
As in comparison with Sneijder, note how I said he was more of a roaming player too. But it is also fact that during his time in hamburg he appeared on team sheets as a second striker.

Obviously his coaches did consider him as that, remember this is the bundesliga we are talking about and hamburg at the time didn't have a host of great forwards.
But he has played there and didn't do too badly either.
Thats an understament, scored and assisted for fun, was in top leading goalscoring charts in that position for Hamburg, and the top 3 best player in the league with Ribery and Diego.
it suprised me to see that he left for as little as 15m
I follow Dutch players like chewing gum stuck to the bottom of your shoe.
IMO they are by far the most advanced nation in their style of playing football.
