A top notch CB shud be given the same priority as a neddy replacement. Mellberg and legro are gud defenders but their consistency is doubtful. Teams like Cagliari and Chievo scoring 3 goals against us and moreover such slip ups costing us the scudetto cannot be repeated next year.Instead of going for primavera or other gambles like knezevic its time to bring a world class CB

4-2-3-1

Amauri
Giovinco - Diego - Camo
Poulsen - Sissoko
Criscito - Chiellini - Kjaer - Zuniga
Buffon

or

4-3-2-1

Amauri
Giovinco - Diego
Marchiso - Poulsen - Sissoko
De Ceglie - Chiellini - Kjaer - Zuniga
Buffon

* DP can replace either Gio or Diego's position
* IQ or Trez can replace Amauri's position

do you actually believe we are going to sign kjaer and zuniga??
if we get criscito back and buy another defender, it would be good
I think we could buy all 3 of Diego, Kjaer, and Zuniga...

Diego after all is the best economic option, most bang for the buck for a Neddy replacement. Sell Grygera, Tiago, Almiron and/OR Zanetti...I think that would give us the funds necessary, right? If anything keep Zanetti as backup, we have Ekdal which should be closer to being ready for first team...Then we have our Primavera boys which need to be given senior team minutes.

He is the better defender, but he isn't that much better.
Oh i beg to differ,

Marquez is a very good footballer, but as a defender he isn't really that special. Sure his reading of the game is very good, but in terms of tackling, pace, aerial ability, positioning and almost every other facet of defending Carvalho is a lot better.

Also Carvalho is a leader in defense, he can hold his own when Terry is unavailable for example. Unlike Marquez, have you seen Barca's defense when Puyol is missing? Marquez can't hold a line like Carvalho can.

I've always said Carvalho is underrated, he is one of the top defenders in the world, in his day he is close to being the best imo.

It seems like Barcelona always concedes when Marquez plays so I do not have high opinions of him, although I admit I do not watch Barca because of timezone problems.

Carvalho is a good player. He defends better than most Portuguese defenders and has scored a few goals after dribbling out from his own area into the opponent's half. His class complements Terry's physical play.

I don't see us getting a Carvalho or Marquez just because of their wages and stuff. I'd be even surprised if we got a Albiol or Gonzalo(should have bought him from San Lorenzo). We'll bring back Criscito(does he even want to come back?) and maybe buy another young D(Bellusci, Kjaer...) if we loan out Ariaudo. Ivanovic would be sweet though.

Let's play a game, which players wouldn't be here if calciopoli didn't happen?
