What's the point of using number of titles won to judge a player? Wouldn't that mean Amauri is a crappy player because he's never called up for Brazil and hasn't won Serie A yet? Is Andres Lilja, a defenseman for the Red Wings who never plays because he isn't that good, a great defenseman?

You can't use that to judge a player.

Lucio may be a great leader, but he isn't a great defender.
don't give me lilja cuz lucio helped bayern a lot...his career performances speaks for himself. If you don't agree with me give me a brazilian cb name better than lucio in the last 10 years :)...

I think a certain # 6 usually of Roma will have a good case for that among many many others.

Lucio is a good defender, definitely not great. If i was an Inter fan I would be a bit indifferent unless Mourinho cannot curb his runs forward then there is a major problem. As Burke said the guy has the tendency to venture forward leaving the defense, and obviously the gaps are exploited as many Bundesliga teams did. Also Osman mentioned his lapses in concentration, which is even worse. I'm not talking about going forward but actual marking or positioning where he sits there while his man drifts away.

It has to be said though when the guy is concentrated he does really well as a defender ( like the confed cup) but I didn't see him doing it consistently yet.
juan has 4 if u are talking about him .. i don't rate juan higher than lucio..

Again, you're missing the point. Lucio plays much better for Brazil than in Bayern, very much like a Milan Baros of the Czech Republic.

And hey, Onyewu probably has been the best American CB of the last ten years... that must make him world class, too.

You can't use these sort of arguments. Brazil isn't known for their great centerbacks anyway, so the only point you raise is how weak they really are back there.

He didnt have a good season with Genoa, was virtually on the bench all the time, and we couldnt cash in on Olivera because no one wanted to pay a single cent. We had to give him away for free (loaning him for 5 years didnt do shit) just to get rid of his 1m salary. And this useless fucker was a Moggi signing, just to remind you of the obvious.

We don't have to make the same mistakes from the past when we were buying average players just to fill in a position.
I'd prefer if we don't buy anyone at all for the defense than buy someone just for the sake of buying.
Until an opportunity for a quality defender popps up, we shouldn't be wasting our money.
Collect enough money to buy a world class defender.
