I had a pretty interesting discussion yesterday, how to form the ultimate rockband. We discussed the best singer, basist, guitarist and drummer.

Vocals:
My favourite singer is Bono he is just fantastic, many won't agree with me on this one. Another singer who is really great is Muse's singer. James Heatfield has to be mentioned. Jim Morrison gets a spot. Pearl Jam is one of my favourite bands so Eddie Wedder catches the second place.

1. Bono
2. Muse's singer
3. Eddie Wedder
4. Jim Morrison
5. James Heatfield

Guitarists:
This one is pretty tough. I think Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin takes my first place. I think Jimi Hendrix is very overrated but he gets a top five spot. Eric Clapton is brilliant but I am not sure if he fits in this band. Chuck Berry is one of my favourite artists I couldn't leave him out of this list. Van Halen is great as well. A guy called Steve Vai is supposed to be great. As U2 is my favourite band I have to mention The Edge.

1. Jimmy Page
2. Van Halen
3. Chuck Berry
4. Jimi Hendrix
5. The Edge
6. Eric Clapton
7. Steve Vai

Bass:
The only basists I know are Flea and that guy who was accused of looking at childpornography :)undecide:) so the rest are ones that my friends who are pretty good at this said.

1. Les Claypool
2. Flea
3. That guy...
4. Victor Vooten

Drums:

I am not really good at this either so this is filled with other than mine. John Bonham was the only one I could come up with. A friend of mine who listens to Slipknot said that their drummer is the best drummer ever so...

1. Slipknots drummer
2. John Bonham
3. Neil Pert

Dream team:

Bono on vocals
Jimmy Page on guitar
Les Claypool on bass
Slipknots drummer

Well if you wonder why I mention people I don't know who they are, well don't. :)

So now give me your best rock band.

Noel Gallagher is stealing most of his ideas, he has admitted it himself. Their guitar playing is pretty simple but Liam Gallagher has a great voice, he deserves a top ten position. I loved this band but their newer material is pretty bad. Morning glory is one of the best records ever made, but after that only a few songs has come to that class. They are still a great live band though.

Well people who don't know them might say they steal songs. I have all of their stuff, including the most recent, and they're still miles ahead of any other contemporary rock band.

Seriously Glenn(?), they do steal stuff. But who doesn't?
They are still a great rockband, After Pearl Jam and U2 they are probably my favourites. But it is not like they are leading rock to new heights they are just making the same music they did ten years ago.

And what`s wrong with not being progressive? I like Radiohead too cos they experiment and all, though I prefer their earlier stuff when they were really a rock band. I wouldn't want Oasis to do that shit, neither U2, cos they`re classic rock bands and so should be.

I have my doubts about Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder is a silly clown :D

with all my respect to another radiohead fan: CHEERS MATE!!!

but oasis the best band? please... they suck, morning glory was good, but everything else is shit. after MG i mean. great lyrics. man, listen to what alanis wrote. that is great lyrics.

but you said one thing right. there is no need for ultimate rock band: radiohead. they are still rock band. maybe yorke is not the greatest song writer cos most of lyrics make no sense but everything else... their combination of guitars and computer sounds... amazing... they are the greatest music creators around the world.
and i'm going to their concert...

Well I like Radiohead, but after Ok Computer they forgot how to write music.

Oasis is not about the lyrics, in fact their lyrics make no sense. They might have a couple of good lines in each song but that's all It's all about the music.

I like listening to Radiohead when I want to feel down, but when I want to be in a good mood I listen to Oasis.

Still, Oasis, Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Travis, Dandy Warhols, etc are all great bands that luckily exist to counter part the utter shite of pop music that we have right now (Britney, Beyonce, boy bands, etc...).

i like bjork too, very much ...
and as guitarists i like steve vai, joe satriani and santana

I don't know if I consider Dandy as a rockband. They are really good band though.

Just like you say music is not about the lyrics, if you want that read a book. The music often says the same thing as the text.

I have always been doubtful to bands that experiment with their music. I get the impression that they are only doing it to satisfy the critics. Bands like Blur and Radiohead both have this problem. It hurts to say this but U2 had this problem during the 90's where they didn't produce much classy music, but it seems like they are going back to the roots now.

Yeah Disco wasn't a great album, though it did have a couple of really good singles.

About the Dandy Warhols, I went to see them once live with my mate, cos we heard that the girl in the band (Zia) goes topless during the encore, so we went to the front of the stage, just in front of her, shouting "We love you Zia!" and "Take your shirt off!" :D She did send us kisses, but she did not take her top off :(

I don't like experimenting either, cos if I like a band in the first place, I like them for that current type of style. Blur have done well on the album 'Blur', but from '13' onwards they went down (again though they had some very good singles).

About the lyrics, I personally prefer remembering one liners than the whole text, cos some one liners can be really deep and all more than a whole song text.

alanis writes great lyrics. but last album is shit

i dont think radiohead or blur experiments just to satisfy critics. if they didn't try something new they would be just one of many rock bands. yes, early blur and radiohead were great but now they are great nonetheless. thinktank is really great. and you say radiohead went down after ok computer. naturally. ok computer is the best album ever released by a rock band.

about ultimate rock band. i'd like to combine jim morisson's and thom yorke's vocals. and have johnny greenwood as guitar/sinthesator/computer player

A guy called Steve Vai is supposed to be great
he is simply brilliant!! i met him before his concert. he allowed a groups of us to go and watch him set up etc...before the concert. he is the best!!

my band would be a mixture of Radiohead and Pearl Jam. And i would probalby have Flea as my bassist.

    nah, i'll try it.

Vocals- eddie vedder and thom Yorke
guitarist- Steve vai and nuno bettencourt
    bass- Flea
Drums- not sure, probably radioheads or something.
    keyboard- trent reznor

something like that would be cool.
