the scariest thing that happend to me was this...
my 9 year old neece, who lost both of her parents in the war in bosnia, waking up in the middle of the night, screaming like hell and running to my mothers arms, calling her mommy, mommy..
definetly the scariest and saddest moment of my life. those thing just shouldn't happen.

It always breaks my heart to hear stories like that. All I ever experienced of war was 'from the sidelines', if you will.
I remember being 5 years old - I was in Amsterdam with my mother and suddenly the air raids went off and we were ordered by the police to seek shelter in the subway system. I remember my mother telling me it was an exercise so we would know what to do if the communists were to attack.
And later, in the 1990s, I remember it was a normal day, quite beauitful weather and we were outside. Suddenly alarms start ringing and a massive fleet of B52's darkened the skies. We hurried inside, switched on the television and saw our Prime Minister addressing the nation; NATO had begun to bomb Serbia. The provincial government started handing out flyers "What to do in case of a counter strike" which spoke of missile attacks etc
That's it. That's pretty much all my war experience. It's extremely petty compared to some stories in here but still it sent shivers down my spine at the time.
