In a match between Chorlton Villa and International Manchester FC at Turn Moss in erm….Manchester, the un-named player was shown the yellow card for farting as an opposition player ran up to take a crucial penalty.
Apparently the “parp” was of sufficient volume to be heard by all and the penalty was missed.
The referee didn’t hesitate in producing a card for “ungentlemany conduct”.
The Chorlton Villa manager, Ian Treadwell was adamant that the noise of the gaseous emission around the semi-circle had nothing to do with the penalty miss and defended his player:
“The other player had the penalty saved because it was a bad penalty it was nothing to do with any noise. Not one of their team remonstrated with the referee when the first penalty was taken.
"They were as shocked as we were as to why. We are waiting for the Football Association to contact us after they have received the report."

The penalty was successfully re-taken although Chorlton Villa did go on to win the match 6-4 in the local derby.
Other cards were produced by the irked official although Treadwell continued the defence of his side:
"We are not a dirty team and we like to play football. While I won't condone the actions of the players it is an emotive game and some of the players were sent off for entering into conversation with the referee.
On a more sombre note Treadwell added:
"This has come at a bad time in the season as we don't have sponsor and we are looking for a new sponsor for next season."
(Reports coming in that the government project body for wind energy or Natural Gas have shown a keen interest in sponsoring the club have yet to be confirmed).
More blow-back reactions from rival clubs in the league are expected with attacks against the side in the future predicted to be firm and unforgiving although a poker-faced Chorlton Villa official said they expect little follow-through.
