Cops Taser Drowned Dad’s Distraught Son
Police prevented sons from attempting to rescue father

Friday, December 5, 2008

California cops tasered a distraught son whose father was drowning after he and his brother complained that police were not doing enough to rescue their dad, while authorities prevented the two sons from making any kind of rescue effort themselves.

The latest example of police brutality unfolded in Mendocino Country California. A San Francisco family was visiting Portuguese Beach when the father accidentally fell into the water and was washed away from the shore.

Police arrived with rescue crews but made no effort to save the drowning man, named as 54-year-old Maurizio Biasini, and prevented his two 18-year-old sons, Dario and Andriano Biasini, from helping their dad as they insisted on waiting for the Coast Guard and a Sheriff’s boat.

The sons’ protests about the inaction of the authorities led to a struggle and cops tackled one while the other was restrained. The son who the cops tackled was then tasered as he lay on the floor and tasered a second time as he attempted to get up.

CHP officers claim the sons were “getting in the way of rescue efforts” but charges of “interfering” are likely to be dropped, according to a KHSL TV report.
“I think they could have settled them down in other ways than that,” said the eyewitness who filmed the incident.

The father who fell in the water is still missing.

This is just the latest example in an epidemic of police brutality that has swept America in the last few years as the indiscriminate use and abuse of Taser devices increases exponentially.

Last week we reported on the case of Margaret Hiebing, a 54-year-old women who was tasered by Wisconsin police for the dangerous crime of sitting in the wrong seat at a football game in Madison. Hiebing, a Badgers season ticket holder, had taken a different seat because someone else had occupied her usual place at the packed game. When police approached Mrs Hiebing she explained the situation and refused to leave. Onlookers began to berate the cops after one of them reportedly threatened Hiebing with pepper spray.

One witness filmed the altercation on a cell phone, evidence which would later dispel initial police claims that Hiebing was causing an obstruction by sitting in the aisle.

Police then forced Hiebing face down on the ground and tasered her on the back of the leg.

Hiebing was then placed in a wheel chair and ejected as she was unable to walk out of the stadium.

the scary thing is that how common it is becoming.

At first (and of course still) it was about cops abusing minorities like blacks and hispanics and other ethnic groups. So you could say it was a case of racisim or ignorant discrimination.

but now the violence is random that pretty much ANYONE could be a target. They are blinded in their lust for absolute obedience and power.

    not with our messiah president
Obama cannot do anything about this. And considering I'm very disappointed in his picks for his staff, I doubt there will be massive change for the better in this country, especially once the depression is in full swing. Obama will become one of the most unpopular Presidents in history, civil unrest due to the economy self-destructing will run rampant with the military having to come in to control crowds, and that is where violence will only increase. So get ready for more of these stories.

Exactly, and it will only increase during the looming depression.

But there's a bit of hypocritical thinking in this whole American version. (The stuff in Greece sounds really messed up -- like the Paris burbs a few years ago.) You have "f*ck da police" and "police should have helped the kids' dad" coming out of the same story. At some point you have to ask, "Well, which one is it?"

It's the police should have helped out (it's their job) when they don't, AND they taser a kid, then it becomes fuck the police.

Dude, he's citing frigging "Prison Planet.com", for crying out loud. I have no faith in them to publish much of anything close to the truth.

Not to defend cops here if they're being assholes, but I would not put it past Prison Planet.com to withhold the fact that the cops may not have helped out because the surf could have been far too dangerous to attempt a rescue -- and therefore the need to wait for the Coast Guard or a Sheriff’s boat could have been done out of the safety of the two kids and the cops to prevent more drowning victims.

Not saying that what did happen, but it would be Prison Planet.com's m.o. to omit precisely facts such as that to cook up their story for sensationalism.

Last Sunday, my wife and I went up to Baker Beach in San Francisco. It's a mile or two inside the Golden Gate and not right on the Pacific Ocean, so it is likely a bit calmer seas that what you might get out at Portuguese Beach. Here's a photo I took just last week of the shores at this inland bay beach.

There were Coast Guard helicopters flying overhead because they were worried about the dangerous surf conditions and kids near the shore getting pulled out to sea by giant waves.

If you're going to say "fuck the police", be sure to have a good reason. Because withheld information meant to sensationalize events just makes the accuser look like an asshole and raises the credibility of their claims... unfortunately, making people with real police grievances seem like they're crying wolf by comparison. That's the absolute worst these Prison Planet.com fuckheads could do -- as I have every reason to believe that the surf was too dangerous for anybody to dive in without becoming another body lost out at sea. I saw it with my own eyes.

I just can't imagine what the onlookers there saw. It reminds me of the Mumbai attacks where the police just stood there as terrorists laid siege on the city, but then tried to arrest the citizens who were defending themselves against the attackers. How the f@#% does that work?!

"My dad is drowning, MY DAD IS DROWNING!"

"Yes, we're waiting for the Coast Guard. It's too dangerous out there."

"But HE'S DROWNING, DO SOMETHING NOW!"

    "No."

    "Okay I'll save him."

    "Shut up kid."

Do you know anything about the site, or are you just like the rest of the drones?

Because now you're coming up with "theories" yourself regarding what happened.

I posted the story from a local newspaper as well because I knew somebody would come in here and "laugh" at the name of the website.

    But suit yourself.

I saw those waves firsthand. I could tell from the story that they "just happened" to neglect the fact that high surf advisory warnings were in effect up and down the coast with Coast Guard air patrols on alert.

That's either blatantly ignorant or intentional, one of the two. But it's a pretty major fact to be "missing".

Hmm, funny. You probably wouldn't provide the same critique of the local newspaper that covered the story.

    Man swept off coast headlands

Sons arrested in scuffle with police
    The Daily Journal

A San Francisco man was swept off the Mendocino Headlands Saturday afternoon, during a family outing with his wife and 18-year-old twin sons. A scuffle with police during the rescue efforts resulted in a California Highway Patrol officer using a taser on one of the sons and Sheriff's deputies putting both under arrest.
Presumed lost at sea is 54-year-old Maurizio Biasini, of San Francisco.
According to CHP Sgt. Jim Kerr, a 911 call went out after Maurizio Biasini was somehow swept off the Mendocino Headlands by a rogue wave at around 1:45 p.m. It is still unclear if he was up on top of the bluffs or had gone down onto the rocks.
Once rescuers from the Mendocino Fire Department, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Department, the Coast Guard and Cal Fire arrived, it was clear that the only possible search and rescue operation would have to be done from the air and sea, not from shore, explained Kerr.
In the meantime the twin sons, Dario and Andriano Biasini were frantic about their father, while some 50 or so onlookers began to gather at the scene. Kerr said the CHP went to the scene after a call for law enforcement assistance because, according to the request, the "lookee-loos are hampering the rescue effort."
At some point around 2:15 p.m., Dario and Andriano apparently began to argue with rescuers, because they believed there wasn't enough being done to find and rescue their father.

Law enforcement stepped in to try to calm the two men but, according to Kerr, the twins got into a pushing match with Sheriff's Deputy Jesse Van Wormer near the cliff's edge and CHP Officer Thad Williams stepped in to try to stop it. A video of the incident taken by a bystander shows Dario wrestling with a Sheriff's deputy near the cliff edge and Andriano pushing and waving other rescuers away and appearing to get involved in the struggle. Williams tries to get Dario to stop the fighting and appears to taser Dario in the arm which momentarily immobilizes him after which he was told to stay put on the ground, but Dario began to get up and Officer Williams used his taser on him again. Meanwhile Dep. Van Wormer and one of the emergency medical technicians at the scene were able to get Andriano under control and handcuffed.
Both Dario and Andriano were arrested but cited and released. No prosecution is expected. Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman said that he can understand that the twins were upset having had their father just swept away to sea.
"Our hearts are very much with the family, we offer our condolences, this is a very unfortunate situation," he said.

    ______________

Hmmm, no mention of a high surf advisory there, Greg.

We better not trust this local newspaper then...

But Maverick's is a world-renowned surfing hot spot. The topography of the area is one of the best in the world for major wave propping. Portuguese Beach is not.
