I agree so much with the bold part. But Barzagli is expensive, I prefer free players like Metzelder and saving our funds for strengthening our midfield.

True, but I think that for the future of this club it would be more beneficial to have a player like Barzagli. An Italian Defensive Leader in place, who will give us many good years. I think CB is the most important position to have a steady player like Barzagli. If he is available, and interested now, we need to get him now. I do think that he will be very special for us and players like him are very rare. I think that it would be very realstic to pick up Barzagli and Metzelder and still have money to spend on the Mid-Field. We will be gaining a lot of money from the Trez sale. But, I just think that there is no one else out there who could be as valuable for as many years as Barzagli could be for us.
As I said in my original post, he (Barzagli) is the most important player for us. And that maybe isn't based on immediate impact, but it is the biggest piece of the puzzle to build this team for the comming years. He will give us many years of great defending, leadership and solidarity. Having a CB like that is priceless.

@tony, I think that you're overrating Barzagli a little bit. I can't deny that the matches he played in the WC were great and he had brilliant season with Palermo in the previous season, but he isn't in his top form this season. What is more, we aren't the only team who is negotiating Palermo for him, there are still Milan and most probably Inter.
Let me explain the reasoning for Barzagli.
1. I want to keep some Italians on Juve. It seems all of the transfer talk has been about foreigners comming to Juve. That is great in all, but this is an Italian team and needs an Italian CB. Italy does produce the most intelligent defenders in the world.
2. Out of all the central defenders in Italy, who is the best? Cannavaro? Matterazzi? Nesta? These guys are all great players, but are too old to give Juve what we need right now. Besides, I doubt, besides Cannavaro, any of these guys will be for sale. So, it leaves the question... who is the best Italian Defender right now. To me it is Barzagli, given his age, capability and potential. He is a consistant player. Everyone has their good and bad days, and Barza is no exception. But I still feel that you know what you will get when he is on the field. That is very important especially since he is constantly gaining wisdom.
3. If you write down all the best central defenders in the world. Then, cross off the ones that aren't for sale. Cross off the ones that are over 30 next year. Cross off the ones that haven't had adequate starting experience. You end up with a list that has to feature Barzagli in the top three at least.
So, if I feel that for a team that values defensive play, lacks a solid central defender, is the king of Italy, and needs to bring in a player who can provide for more than a year or two in order to help build Juve for the future, am I really that out of line?
I know that I want the future captain of the Azzurri's defense on my team. He is very good. With Juventus he will become great. Much like the list of people just like him that came before him. Lippi is a smart man, and he knows why he picked a 25 year old central defender for the WC Squad. I think Metzelder is an excellent pickup and we should get him no matter what, but he would be a lot better with Barzagli next to him.
I guess my question is, who would you rather have that is available to Juventus. Who is honestly a better option for the future?

Actually, I agree with first point but I disagree with the other two. Commenting on the last two points, I think there lots of quality defenders in Italy bar Nesta, Cannavaro and Materrazzi. Terlizzi of Sampdoria and Canini of Cagliari are also decent defenders whom we can depend on in the coming years. Moreover, they are more cheaper than Barzagli, who will cost us most probably not less than £10M or Marchionni plus cash. Not only in Italy but also in all Europe you can find dozens of impressive young defenders and here comes the role of our scouts.
And for the future, we already bought Criscito and still some players on their way in the summer, without a doubt.

We will gain about £15M for the sale of Trezeguet. Good money to spend on an important position. I think he is worth it. He is very good. I think the price for him would be paid back to us with consistency, years of play, and quality of play. Also, he will be a good leader when Del Piero is gone. We will need that dearly.

If I was Juventus sport chief, I'd make an offer for Zlatan again, once we manage to clinch his signature...of course it wont be any deal, 5years minimum, once he gets to Turin, we put him in a small room(He isn't any better than Paparesta) we'll put him in a wheel where his back has to to lean inside the wheel, after this we keep him under the sun for like 4hours.....after this tough day we put him to say, "I never supported Inter when I was a kid" and we repeat this step everyday, till he learns his lesson.
Trezeguet is leaving. He is not going to be here next year. He WANTS out. He was very apparent about that. We need to come to a common understanding about Trezeguet. He is very good, and was great for Juve for a little while, but he no longer wants to be with us. Thank you Trez, best of luck in the future. Now can we please all move along. Juventus is much bigger than one big player.
Once again it is a difference of philosophy. We don't have all the money in the world and we can't have everything, so in fact we have to put our efforts in one area at a time. There is no right or wrong answer of course, but it would be my preferance to build the defence up before the offense. Either way they are both extrememly lacking. Who would you get that would be a world class striker for us. I like Toni and Amauri.
