Boumsong awaits Besiktas reply
Thursday 17 January, 2008
Juventus defender Jean-Alain Boumsong’s future remains unclear as talks with Turkish giants Besiktas continue.
The French international stopper was a regular starter during the Old Lady’s Cadetti campaign, but he hasn’t featured in the top flight.
Boumsong has overcome a series of injuries and played in the Coppa Italia clash against Empoli on Tuesday, but he failed to impress.
The Cameroon-born star’s agent has been in talks with Turkish Super Lig runners-up Besiktas, who have reportedly made an offer of around £2m, but Juve are looking for at least £3m.
It is also believed that Boumsong’s wage demands of around £1m per year – equal to his current salary – may prove a problem for the Black Eagles.
With Giorgio Chiellini sidelined for a month with a knee injury it is possible that there may be more space for the 28-year-old on Turin, but it seems increasingly likely that Boumsong will quit the club before the end of the season.
Lazio may provide competition for the ex-Newcastle man’s signature, but Besiktas are in pole position and will hold further talks within the next few days.
