The UK Daily Mail reported that with the help of an expert lip reader it was able to decipher that first Marco Matterazzi called the French star the Italian equivalent of 'n--ger', and then insulted both his mother and his Muslim background by saying he is the 'son of a terrorist wh-re. Marco Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane who once played for Italian side Juventus - grabbed his opponent and told him 'hold on, wait, that one's not for a n--er like you.' As the players walked forward Materazzi said: 'We all know you are the son of a terrorist wh-re.' Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying,: 'So just f-ck -ff.'

Makes sense. I could see Materazzi saying that. What boggles the mind is why Zizou only head-butted him (though it was a good one). If a guy calls your mother a terrorist whore, and you're going to get kicked out of the game for whatever you do to him, then why not take him out of the match with you?`

Everybody knows Materazzi's reputation in provoking players, and I'm sure he knows Zidane's flaw well, so he deliberately set himself as the victim and hurl such an insult to Zizou, and he seems to know what will happen after that. After all, Zidane had a history of similar provocations and he is trying to test Zidane and get him sent off. Vicious I would day

But then Zidane's temper run over him again, he should have provoked Materazzi as well and get the latter to beat him up. After all it is the person who triggered the violence gets sent off

All news and discussion regarding the Azzurri this June in Germany should be posted within this thread.

Marcello Lippi has not yet named his final squad, and we will be awaiting his decisions in the coming days.
Well well.

Look who started the thread back in 2006.

You're our number one fan it turns out!

I like July 9, 2010 much more than the 2006 one. No danger that Juve will be relegated, no foolish hope that we'll get an amnesty and the Italian NT sucks.
