surely this is what the Rock thread, what are you listening to thread, etc was for? no?

i could go on and on about the music i like, some would think it was shit, some would think it was tremendous, "good music" is completely subjective,i love Ian Brown, his music may not travel as well as it is a very "british" style, but Cigdem loves him, while Jasper may hate him

I believe there's an appreciation for talent regardless of personal opinion. I may not like some artists/groups but I don't brand them as shit, just not to my taste. There are however a few trends that I do not like and the level of talent/originality is questionable:
  • Girls with 'big' voices - your Aretha Franklin homage fad is over, seriously.
  • Girls with an Acoustic Guitar and a Moany voice - Shiiiiiite
  • The whole modern indie rock fad from 2003 on - It's as if Topman and H/M got together and decided to revive a genre to suit their clothes. A sub point to this is the regional indie rock twang from some of the British Groups
  • The 80s 'Save the Rave' and 'NuRave' gayness
  • Synthisised Voices deceptively adding musical talent.

That is all.

    Extremely

This thread is going to be a shooting range for me
Obviously according to the thread starter all other music threads are the bad music threads.
I thought frowning upon jasper's opinion is frowned upon.
I don't get the problem, i have noticed a what are you listening too now thread, a reggae thread, a rock thread & a Techno, Trance & House thread. If you want to claim that you are providing a multitude of representation of all music on this forum then you are sadly mistaken. I just wanted to make a thread where we could share music with eachother that is current/recent that we wouldnt be embarassed to show our kids in 20 years time. Chill

You have summed up my opinion fairly well.

What tells you I would be embarrassed to tell my kids in 20 years time about some of the reggae tracks being discussed in that thread? Or Vlatko about some of the rock tracks in the rock thread, or Andy some of the hip hop tracks he listens to?

You on the other hand think that YOUR choice of music is the good music. I am sure you could have named the thread in any other name but being the egoistic character you are, of course you opted for that ugly choice.

    Chill the dill.

i think you are talking more about the NY Indie scene, groups like the Strokes,Vampire Weekend, etc have latched onto the british Indie scene and made a radio friendly edit of it all, their output is nothing in comparison to some of the truly excellent Indie bands of the early late 80's/early 90's. although groups like Interpol have produced some quality stuff.

personally i have taken a huge liking to the heavy blues/rock output of the Black Keys, radio Moscow in the last couple years and for me this is probably the truest form of "indie" American rock at the moment

what musical genre is 'Good' again?
So i assume you both ignored the part where i said about it not being genre specific, did you even bother reading what i wrote or are you just being arogant and assuming things? Did you listen to the links i posted? I posted some poetry, electronic, thrashcore, indie & grimecore. Im fairly sure that isnt divided into one genre, or is it?

I want to listen to all music from different genres that is 'good', music that has been written by the performer and has some meaning to it, as opposed to regurtitated pop ala Lady Gaga/Rhianna etc. But if you cant be bothered to see past your predujiced judgement of me why bother posting in here?

    Man up.
