Yeah, that's a somewhat fair point. I don't know all of the circumstances behind that situation with Pandev (not sure exactly what they were holding him out for... I think Goran wanted more money? Can't remember...), but they were eventually forced to release the player through a legal appeal by Pandev. They didn't just terminate his contract.

That's an absolutely stupid situation as well, but this is 2 months before the window opens, and it's basically just throwing away at least 10-15M if you were to go to the ultimate lowball scenario in terms of what Cassano could bring in.

Also, Cassano is obviously much more important to Samp than Pandev was to Lazio.

If we were paying 20m, I would be hesitant considering his history, but for free I fail to see what we risk. Assuming he follows the same career path he did at Roma and Samp, he will have a season or 2 of stellar form, and when/if he has another fit, we sell him at a profit.

However, having broke into the Italy set up and as a soon to be father, he has a lot more motivation to keep his head down now, and that bodes well for whoever signs him.

If DN and Marotta decide to sign him, I'm confident. Having managed him b4, they know what to expect and would not risk him disrupting the dressing room if they thought he wasn't capable of life at Juventus.

Mods close it.

Del Neri:

Cassano is good but he's not in our plans, he suits Sampdoria and the fans love him.

Marotta:

Cassano is not a target of ours.

Here we go Red.

Bonucci:

Cassano to Juve? Would be good, he's a fantastic player afterall, however now is not the time to talk about it.

:p

Ties into what you said? Marotta and Del Neri don't want to be accused of tapping him up?

If IF Cassano becomes a free agent it will be crazy not try to sign him, we have a coach in charge who knows how to handle him and a sport director who knows him... If we dont get himm now then this thread can be close forever

Cassano 'insulted President'
Details begin to leak out on how Antonio Cassano insulted President Riccardo Garrone and his teammates, but the contract termination could involve Real Madrid.

Sampdoria have put in a request to have Cassano’s contract terminated after a furious row with the patron, which would involve suspending him from training, playing and freezing his wages until the Lega tribunal gives its verdict in around two weeks.

The Gazzetta dello Sport claims it has new information on what exactly happened during this blazing row over his refusal to attend an awards ceremony.

“He stormed out, violently slamming the door, and began shouting as he walked towards the locker room,” said a source.

“He was swearing, calling the President 's***ty old man,’ and as he went past teammates Giampaolo Pazzini, Nicola Pozzi, Daniele Dessena, Guido Marilungo and Stefano Lucchini, he referred to them as 'a***-lickers.’

“This was also witnessed by team manager Giorgio Ajazzone and such an incident robs the club of the opportunity to earn the full worth of the player through a sale, while it mines the credibility of the entire directorial staff.”

It appears, though, that the club was willing to forgive and forget if Cassano signed a formal, written apology - something he then refused to do, having already apologised to Garrone in a phone call.

However, there are some legal issues that Sampdoria perhaps did not consider when taking such drastic action.

It has to be a very serious breach of contract to prompt a termination, so it’s entirely possible the Lega tribunal will opt for an alternative sanction, such as a strong fine or suspension.

That would make it more likely for a January sale, as Juventus, Inter and Napoli are interested in a swoop, along with overseas options like Manchester City.

The Corriere dello Sport also points out that Real Madrid have a clause in their sale to Sampdoria meaning they are owed €5m if the player is sold on before 2013.

That still stands even if the contract is terminated, so firing Cassano could actually cost the Blucerchiati money.

Insulting the president, fine, but I don't like that he went in on his team mates, as well.
