He been block central since the beginning (he is 7'4 with insanely good mobility for that size). But blocks is not be and all for defence.

But his overall defensive impact and chops took a massive rise around February. Shortly after he was changed to full time center. He started getting the Rudy like never minds habit of players started avoiding to attack basket if he was anywhere near it. Anyone switching on him just discouraged immediately.

That's one of Rudys biggiest impacts that can't be shown in box score stats. Players just turning away and passing when they have chance to lay up/shoot. Wemby reach and smarts as a defender was reaching that type of reputation post the break. And the advanced stats defensive metrics showed that for the final months, when it wasn't there for previous months.

All fair points but let's not forget one guy is 31 and the other is 20, this is literally a learning season for him. Like I said, it's fair to give Rudy it this season, he's a specialist defender who makes those around him better (when they want to be).

Yeah its not even a critique, a rookie, even if one who has all time great level potential, struggling first months of the season is very normal. If anything he exceeded expectations by 5x defensively for me considering how insanely dominant he is off the bat this quick. It's just people need to take whole season into account when they talk about awards like DPOY.

It's offensively I felt sorry for Wemby, not defensively. Because Jeremy Sochan as your PG, who never passed him when he was open. Or Zach Collins next to him who couldn't defend a cone and shots 3s when he can't shoot them lol or Keldon trying to get his etc when he was starting. Even in the standards of tanking team it was insane mess.

When Sochan was moved to PF and Tre Jones with his playmaking ways started ss pg it looked much better for Wemby. Plus him adjusting to the league.

I'm eager to see him play with a playmaking quality pg and for spurs to actually aquire guards and wings who can defend a cone lol. So wemby isn't required to cover for everything.

Some solid arguments you guys are posting.

But imo DPOY should go to Darvin Ham. He locked AD and Lebron for the other 29 teams throughout the regular season and the playoffs.

It's not even close.
They still won't have won shit, with or without Ham.

And no, that glorified In-Season Tournament doesn't count - it's like the NBA's version of the Coppa Italia or the now defunct Intertoto Cup.

Sochan playing PG that long was basketball version of Dybala on the wing.

Windhorst on this year’s draft:

"I was talking to a scout today and he's like, 'I don't know, if you get a top 3 pick in this lottery it may be kind of like a loss, because then you've got to pay some of these guys that kind of salary"

Lol harsh but maybe true. Not the greatest draft to go high in. But there will be inevitable stars somewhere in here. I can't really decide who I'd want to draft.
