Only 2nd? Are you kidding? This draft is two deep in players who can become superstars, and the Lakers get whomever is left.

They are in a position to get either Simmons or my favorite, Brandon Ingram.

It would have been a disaster if they ended up third instead of 2nd. The talent dropoff after Simmons and Ingram is THAT big.

I could see us trading it.
For whom? Whomever they try to get will cost the 2nd pick in the draft just to start off with. And I'm not trading Randle or Russell in any package.

Divac already said that Cousins is not being traded this year. So that leaves, Butler and George? It will take more than the 2nd pick and either one of Randle or Russell to make that happen, and the Lakers are short of tradeable assets

I agree, it's just a move I see the Lakers doing.

I don't see it happening. It doesn't make sense. They have to be patient.

This team is going to be much better than last year for these two reasons alone, and not just these two reasons.

#1) Kobe is gone. No more Kobe farewell tour. No more deferring to him at every opportunity

#2) Luke Walton. He is as much family as Byron Scott, and he has a brilliant basketball mind, and can relate to the young guys.

And that isn't even factoring in the 60 million in cap space.

Look, I don't think they are making the playoffs this year. But if they keep that pick, and get whoever is left between Simmons and Russell, you have a really good young core to build around. There is finally light at the end of this tunnel

Absolutely. Good young coach as well. Hopefully we do the right thing.

One thing people tend to forget about Paul George.

The dude is a horrible shooter. Butler is better, but not by much, and his other numbers aside from his scoring are pretty pedestrian

I am genuinely excited about this draft. Not only do they have the 2nd pick, but they have the 32nd pick in the draft. They could find a solid player there as well.

Just build this team the right way. No amount of quick fixes are going to make them a title contender next year.

If you want to go all in for the 2017 free agent class, then go be my guest. At least by then there will be at least 4 pieces of a very young squad that they can pitch to free agents.

I wanted 1st to get whoever we want, not whoever is left. The 76ers are getting no.1 pick too often
They haven't had the #1 pick since 1996 :howler:

What are you talking about?

Apparently DeMar DeRozan will join Lakers as a free agent.

Are there any good C's as free agent this summer?
Yeah, no thanks on DeRozan.

As far as centers, there is Hassan Whiteside as an unrestricted free agent, Dwight Howard , and for restricted free agents there is Festus Ezeli

@zizinho, they can't go wrong either way if Simmons or Ingram are left. They can't. This is the perfect spot for them.

ok they didnt, i still wanted us to get 1st to get whoever we want

ofcourse either of the top 2 projected would be good but we basically cant pick the one we prefer

I haven't been following NBA much lately, but is there any chance to get Durant? or/and Andre Drummond?

To be honest with you, I think that Ingram is the best player in this draft, and a much better fit for the Lakers than Simmons. Despite every attempt by Simmons and his camp to try and dissuade Philadelphia from drafting him, I think they are going to.

And that leaves the kid that I really want for us :touched:

Durant?

Highly, highly unlikely. Same for Drummond, although he is a restricted free agent, there is no way they don't match any offer that comes around, which is why I didn't mention him earlier

6 months ago, Simmons was the consensus #1 pick.

No question, no doubts. It was only a matter of who was getting that pick.

Then a funny thing happened on the way to the NCAA tournament.

Simmons couldn't carry his team to the tournament, and Ingram started showing consistent comparisons to Kevin Durant

you think they will get Simmons? i kinda doubt it.

whoever they draft out of these two it will be a good selection. i was just disappointed that we didnt get no.1 pick

If the difference between the projected #1 and the rest of the class was a huge dropoff, then I would agree with you.

However, we are lucky that this draft has 2 potential superstars, so we get whomever Philly doesn't select. And I hope Philly selects Simmons

 youre right

we will see how they turn out, i would be more confident if it was us choosing the player instead of taking the one thats left, but whatever, we are about to get a top talent here
