Oh, all this talk of Demarcus Cousins to the Lakers.

Please god no. I love Cousins, but this would effectively kill off any and all cap space for this year. It makes no sense at all. This move will actually set them back.

If they have to give up the #2 pick, Clarkson and Randle, that is 8 million of Cap space. Cousins alone has 17 million. The lakers don't have anyone else on the roster that they can send to Sacramento to make up the difference.

So, you will have Cousins, Bryant.............................................................................................................................................

exactly.

You keep the #2 pick at the 4.3 million cap hit, you still have Randle, Clarkson, and 24 million in cap space. Why the fuck would the Lakers even do this.

I swear, I'll stick my head in a beehive if they make this trade
This. You are practically back at square one. Sure you'd have an elite centre but not much else. We won't challenge with just cousins.

Come on, this is robbery for the lakers, Cousins > Unkown #2 Pick, Randle, Clarkson
Are you insane? Seriously. Are you?

You do realize that if they make this trade, then all they have is Kobe and Cousins.

That's it. All the youth on that roster that is worth a damn (Randle and Clarkson), and the #2 Pick in the draft to be used on a kid that can get 18 and 8 his rookie year (Okafor), plus 24 million in cap space? Gone. All Gone.

Seriously. What option would you rather have? Oh, and by the way. The #2 pick, Randle, and Clarkson is only PART of the trade that would go to Sacramento from the Lakers.

But at this point IMO it doesn't make sense for the Lakers.
It makes no sense at all. Instead of building a squad around Okafor, Randle, Clarkson with all of that cap space, they will be building it around Cousins.

No thanks. I love Cousins, but no way. That hamstrings the Lakers. They literally would have no one else on their roster worth anything.

How ? The lakers organisation wants to win and win now, Getting the best Center in the NBA for peanuts really is the best thing for them, the lakers aren't waiting for Randle, Okafor to develop... So you get the best Center in the NBA, and now you have Top FA wanting to play with him for the Lakers, do you think Durant, Love, Westbrook will want to play with a Rookie as their second best player ??

Next year when Kobe's contract is up, they will have ton of Cap space, you can go after Durant and pair him with Cousins, do you think Durant will want to play with a couple of Rookies of unkown quality. How many time do you see players with huge hype flop from the draft ? do you want to take that risk when you can have a young established player in DMC.

Let's take a look at this from a different perspective.

Cousins "may" be the best center in the NBA. But he averages 24 and 12, with a better roster around him than what the Lakers currently hve. IF you watched Okafor in college, he already has a more advanced offensive skill set than Cousins, and just about every center in the league right now. Getting 18 and 8 in his rookie year is what most pundits are expecting. So, Cousins at 24 and 12, at the age of 24, with a 17 million dollar cap hit.

Or, Okafor at 18 and 8, at the age of 19, with a 4.3 million cap hit.

Additionally. This trade guts the roster of the Lakers of any talented youth that they have. Not to mention that they would still have to trade additional assets to make the cap numbers work. SO, whatever minimal amount of assets that are on that team would go to Sacramento.

Oh yeah. The 6th pick in the draft is NOT part of the trade.

So, in other words, the Kings would get the #2 pick, 2 young up and coming players in Randle and Clarkson, cap space, AND keep their own pick?

In a trade that would be between two teams in the same division?

And you talk about how Love, Westbrook, Durant etc.. would go west?

Yes they would. To Sacramento.

So will everyone else.

That is the blessing and the curse of what is going to happen next year. You are still in the same situation that you are in now. Top free agents can still make a lot more money signing with their current team.

This is why players like Love and Aldridge are probably going to take one year deals.

Their bird rights will kick in, and then they can re-sign with their team for a much higher amount.

See what I am saying? If the Lakers make this trade, then they will NOT have the cap space to be able to get a Kevin Love on a 1 year deal, and then have him re-sign long term.

And winning sooner rather than later is not the same as winning now.

Getting Cousins, with no one else around him except a 37 year old Kobe Bryant who has missed significant time the past two seasons does nto allow you to win sooner rather than later, and sure as fuck doesn't allow you to win now.

Keeping the #2 pick, taking Okafor, and keeping Randle, Calrkson, having the cap room to sign a Kevin love to go with Bryant doesn't allow you to win now either. But it sure as hell will allow you to win sooner rather than later.

Nah, they probably mean a year from now or so. I'm pretty sure he's staying in Cleveland.

@Salvo
No. He Opted out.

He is a free agent.

Wants a bigger contract?

- - - Updated - - -

Also, how many hours till the draft?
IT could be that he wants a bigger contract. But it could also be that by signing a 1 year contract, he can go to a team that will allow him to re-sign a maximum deal without the team having to worry about the Bird Rights exception. I just remembered that Love has only been at the Cavs for one year, so that wouldn't apply. However, how it would work is that if the Cavaliers re-sign Lebron to an absolute maximum salary deal, there may not be enough hard cap room for Kevin love to maximize his deal.

It gets complicated.

K Love opted out? I had no idea
Yes he did, sir.

More and more talk about D'Angelo Russell going to the lakers at #2

As long as they don't trade that pick, or if they do, it is to move down a few spots and pick up some assets, then I'm cool with it. I prefer Okafor, but more and more people are talking about Russell's upside being through the roof.

I just don't know anymore.
