It's such saying using over here: hit the table and shears will speak - in my own translation
We use it, when someone comment some thing, and we take it as sensitive point of that person. Or sth like that - I'm afraid I can't explain it better, it's just an idiom.

And no, it wasn't to you personally, I would reply in the same way to every person who would say the same sentence as you did
