I'll first and foremost quote the game as proposed elsewhere in another forum I played it, so you understand the basics, here it is:

Since I am bored and have a lot of free time at the moment, I'm wondering if people here would be interested in playing the classic forum game, Mafia. We would only need about 9-12 people to play a decent game which would stretch for about a week, with minimal contribution from each player, and really what else is this forum going to do between weekends? We can even expand to 15-18 if there is more interest. Here are the rules if anyone is interested:

Since it's the first one I volunteer to be the Narrator of this first edition (unless it's been done before, too lazy to check thread history).
Once we have enough people who are interested, I will randomly assign the roles secretly in private message to each user as follows.
2-4 Gangsters
6-9 Civilians
1 Detective
1 Bodyguard

In principle, nobody will know who is who, (only the Gangsters will know who each other are) although the point of the game is to speculate and try to find out who is who. We then begin with the first Night phase, the Gangsters will get together and decide who they want to whack, they then PM me their target, and we will change to Day phase and the Civilians will discover someone has been whacked. The town then votes on who they think should be lynched in retribution (including the Gangsters pretending to be Civilians).
At the start of the second Night phase, the Gangsters will target someone else and so on. At this point the Detective will also begin his role by pming me who they want to investigate, at which point by morning they will know what role a certain person has (nobody knows for sure who is the Detective, so the Gangsters could just as easily lie about it). The Bodyguard will also PM me in the second Night phase 1 person who they will protect from being whacked (even themselves if they want to). Of course the Bodyguard can still be killed by lynching or even if he is whacked and doesn't protect himself. We then go into Daytime again and repeat into Night until the game is over.

After repeating this over a few days, the outcome of the game will either be:

The game ends either when the last Gangster is killed (Civilian victory) or the Gangsters outnumber or equal the Civilians during the day (Gangster victory). The Civilians have no way of voting off Gangsters at this point, but the Gangsters can still kill each night.

There can be a deadline for voting on lynching (which is public) during the daytime, and a deadline for the gangsters to decide who to whack during night.
When a person is dead, they can no longer talk in the thread or offer any kind of speculation. This game is basically like survivor on an internet forum.

Anyways I think I have explained it pretty thoroughly, who is interested?
This is an online based version of a party/social game, its varied when actually playing in person, read more of it in its wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_Game

Thats basically more or less the simplified version of it when it comes being oriented for playing in online format, it can have more, several more roles, based on how many will take part in it, and how is it balanced (if there's lots of players, then roles like the lawyer, the jailer, the corrupt cop can be introduced). But this is the best and simple way to start out as a beginning. Can explain more about basic rules and the do's and do nots to make the game fair for both sides.

And I can explain more about how its best to play the game (will do so later post), and the dynamics and fun part of it all, but for now, its best to ask who is interested and such :) I can assure you its LOTS of fun with its intrigue and mind games :D If anyone is interested, I can show you links of others playing and how it can be (though preferly not because I dont want others to see how I play :D).

P.S Forgot the biggiest sales pitch of all, Alen will be the narrator :D

I'll play.

My only concern if whether we can trust certain people not to blow the whole thing by displaying people's PMs...

Thats the rules part of it all, I can show some of the rules that was made for the other forum I played in, relating to this (and consequences for it etc). But there were some issues with it, people taking the easy way out. But first and foremost, its best if people simply play it in good nature and realise that there is nothing fun about cheating in this :)

True.

But somehow I'd like that part. Because PM's are easily forged. How would you know which ones are real?

You can count me in.

Thats a very good point Seven, you'll still have to be suspicious of that, because there is the possibility someone would forge it, I would myself naturally suspect anyone willing to cheat to prove himself, as should anyone.

But doubt that would happen, and in case if there is an interest, even if it may give away the approach and tactics of the game a little for rooks, I'll could post a bit about the purpose and dynamics of the game, bit like Mafia Game for dummies commentary :D

Its not alot of work at all, you take part, post your thoughts on whats what, and vote and chip on who you think is suspicious or not. Main thing is that you vote daily, who to lynch, nothing sophisticated, bit like an angry mob irrationally going after anyone, or a witch hunt :D.

They will all vote for Seven to be killed on day 1 :D
If Seven is a civilian, whoever goes to lynch him too eagerly and ferociously, will be suspicious because it will bound to be a Gangster using the "everyone hates Seven" card too eagerly :D

Ooops, did I give it away?

-What happens when the detective dies? Is this game over for the gangsters?
-When a gangster is caught by the detectiv, is he going to prison? He doesnt count in the gangsters vs civilians accounting, doesnt he? He is accounted as killed for all intends and purposes, right?
-The winners should win some virtual points, maybe they will share an equal partition of every participant.
-I predict a gangsters win

-I wont play, but i ll watch the first one:alen:

I don't really see how the civilians would win though. Isn't it more difficult for them than it is for the gangsters? I suppose the best way to learn is to play it though.
