A late equaliser from Raul Gonzalez enabled Brescia Calcio to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory against FC Gloria 1922 Bistrita and a place in the third round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

Positive start
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, the Romanian side began brightly and came close to drawing level on aggregate as Lucian Sanmartean's free-kick hit the post. The same player did then find the net, scoring with another free-kick 15 minutes into the second half, and the home side's hopes were boosted further by the 79th-minute dismissal of Marco Pisano.

Late drama
However, Gloria were unable to make the extra man count and were punished by their Italian opponents two minutes from time as Gonzalez equalised to take Brescia through.

Early lead
OGC Nice claimed victory by an even narrower margin, defeating Örgryte IS on away goals after the tie had finished 4-4 after two legs. Trailing 3-2 to their Swedish opponents after the first leg, Nice were quickly level on aggregate as defender Noé Pamarot opened the scoring in the seventh minute.

Crucial goal
The French side were in front overall as Christophe Meslin made the score 2-0 in the 22nd minute and, despite Jeffrey Aubynn's goal for Örgryte, Nice held on.

Wolfsburg win
VfL Wolfsburg enjoyed a more comfortable victory, as a 2-0 win at home to PFC Marek Dupnitza earned a 3-1 overall success. The German side broke the deadlock two minutes before half-time through Martin Petrov, and a last-minute penalty from Dorinel Munteanu ended the Bulgarian side's hopes.

Racing success
Real Racing Club Santander also needed a late strike to defeat Györi ETO FC on away goals. The Spanish side travelled to Hungary protecting a 1-0 first-leg advantage, only for Marko Kartelo to give Györ a 14th-minute lead. Aleksander Bajevski then put the home team in front on aggregate, but a goal from midfield player Jonathan ten minutes from time enabled Racing to go through after a 2-2 draw overall.

Away-goals win
FC Koper also needed the away goals rule to progress, as goals from Sasa Bozicic and Viktor Trenevski away to FK ZTS Dubnica proved enough for the Slovenian side to win after the two sides had finished 3-3 after the two matches.

Exciting tie
OFK Beograd were knocked out by 1. FC Synot 4-3 on aggregate after a 3-3 second-leg draw, while Willem II's 2-1 first-leg advantage was overturned by FC Wil 1900, the Swiss side winning 3-1 to secure a third-round place.

Second-leg fightback
K. Lierse SK overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit in impressive fashion, defeating FK Sloboda Tuzla 5-1 in Belgium with Karel Snoeckx and Marc Schaessens both scoring twice, while 1. FC Brno also moved through as a 1-1 draw at home to FC Thun earned a 4-3 aggregate win. A late goal from Konstantin Kotov helped FC Tobol Kostanay earn a 1-0 victory against K. Sint-Truidense VV on the day and a 3-0 win overall.

Late recovery
HNK Cibalia recovered from a 2-1 first-leg deficit top defeat FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk 5-3 on aggregate thanks to late goals from Zoran Ratkovic and Ivan Maroslavac. Meanwhile, SV Pasching defeated FK Pobeda 3-2 overall thanks to a 2-1 second-leg victory, and FC Dacia Chisinau were impressive 5-0 winners against FK Partizani after a 3-0 victory in the second leg in Albania.

Sunday action
On Sunday, late goals from Vaclav Kolousek and Jan Nezmar enabled FC Slovan Liberec to secure a 2-0 success against Shamrock Rovers FC and wrap up a 4-0 aggregate victory. AC Allianssi held on to a 1-0 first-leg lead to overcome Akratitos FC after a goalless second leg, while there was high drama as Tero Koskela scored a last-minute winner for Tampere United away to FK Sutjeska, the only goal of the tie.
