he's not playing as a DMF or as a CB. He's is to play as a winger with a bit of freedom to roam.

If he can play as a winger for Empoli and be good there, he can play as a winger in Juve where he has the Poulsen, Zanetti, and Sissoko protecting him.

If the summer is perfect it would be: Franck Ribéry for the wings, Marek Hamšík in the middle, and Kolo Touré from Arsenal. But realisitcally if we are even getting one of these players, it would only be one of them, and I only said Kolo because he's supposedly on the market right now.

We don't need a starting LM. I think Giovinco will do fine there.

what we need is a RB ( I'd give Eboue a chance) and a young MR. Camo is way too injury prone, and Marchionni is not reliable. Find someone young to eventually take over 32 year old Camo's spot.
I think so too, But Ranieri sees him as a support striker, ala the DP mould.

and hopefully Ranieri will be gone come June.

Camo-Sissoko- Zanetti/Poulsen--Giovinco

Giovinco's lack of Defensive skill will be balanced by the presence of 3 very hard working midfielders.

I think he'd do well there too. Like you said before, the team can afford having Gio on the left, with 2 defensive mids like Sissoko and Poulsen.

We should just buy one very good full back and play 4-3-1-2 next year.

That would be good place for Giovinco and plus we have many players in middle capable of playing that way.

iirc, Ranieri tried that formation against Palermo(?), and he played Gio behind the strikers, it didn't work out so well.

1 game where the midfield was so insanely bad, that they couldnt support the offensive trio (they received shit), is not nearly enough to dismiss a potentially potent formation as that one. Not by a long shot.

Our fullbacks are not good enough to play 4-3-1-2.

We would be left with little or no width and would end up getting bogged down in the middle of the pitch.

That being one of the reasons why the midfield was so bad and couldnt cope with Palermos midfield trio. Getting better fullbacks is doable. But one quite bad game (not due to Giovinco himself) is not enough to dismiss that formation for good.

But to play that formation, or even think of it, we need to get a new coach first. Wont be trying it much, or using it for good, when he is here. Doubt a new coach would use it too, but still, no way with Ranieri.

Therefore having Giovinco play left wing will be best option.
4-4-2 is the best option.

Where Giovinco fits is another question entirely.

I would like to see him tried at LW in a game at home against fairly weak opposition. I can understand why Ranieri wouldn't play him there in away games or against good opposition.

I quite agree.

It definitely isn't. But with the personnel at Ranieri's disposal right now, i don't believe the 4-3-1-2 fits them. It would need fullbacks that can attack and provide the width, and it doesn't suit a player like Camo. I'm not a big fan of Camo the central midfielder, i believe he's wasted there.

That formation would only suit Giovinco when you really think of it, is he really worth the change in formation, as talented as he may be.

I am kinda hoping there is some truth to the Iaquinta for Arshavin deal. That would be sweet. Arshavin is excellent and at 27 he is perfect to throw straight in to the starting 11 and expect to win us titles when DP retires.

Iaquinta is great but with Trez and Amauri we have that position covered. Giovinco is not like Del Piero and should be an attacking mid. Arshavin would be a good player to have and in 2 or 3 years with Nedved, DP and Trez (maybe) are gone.

we can have:

Amauri---Arshavin
------Giovinco-----

The realistic option this January is Zhirkov... He'd be tired after the Russian season and I wouldn't mind him on the bench or playing in Coppa matches until he's ready for us next summer... Realistically, I don't think anyone will be arriving in this mercato except for some youngsters coming and going on loan...

And even though this squad doesn't have big names, I still think we can go all the way on both counts this season with what we have, unless we start losing players to injury again... We have scored a lot and conceded very few, with a back up goalkeeper and without any over the top signings..
(the statement above has been repeated a hundred times already, but I just wanted to say it once again, coz I'm really proud of this 'team' :))
