I would say u obviously cant be dead slow, but most professional footballers are fast enough. Basically i deem technical ability a bit more important, because if u cant beat ur man ur screwed no matter how fast u r. However u have to be fast enough that once u do get past the defending player, he cant just simply catch up with u again easily.

Beckham isn't exactly your typical winger, sure he delivers good crosses but he rarely beats his marker. I think Beckham play wide but he's no winger. He can play as a winger in a 4-4-2 but he would be absolutely useless in a 4-3-3. All other top wingers can play in it, Camo, Di Natale, Ronaldo etc...
I think Camo is rather fast actually. Not too many players can outrun him.

No matter how good you are technically, if you lack speed, you can't play as a winger. That's why players like Riquelme, Totti, and Del piero can't play as wingers. While you see players like Di Natale who isn't as technical as any of them but is faster than any of them perform superbly on the wings.

Another point is that wingers are often used for counterattacks. Hence, the 4-3-3 formation. It's a counterattacking formation and if the wingers aren't fast enough, it's pretty much useless. It's really a lot about pace, that's why you never see old players playing on the wing. You would naturally see younger players on the wings because of the mountainous amounts of running and quickness the wing position needs.

I like both of them, especially Gamberini. He's improving.

But Dominic, still you hasn't answered me. What do you think about Gobbi?
Gobbi is decent, but I think it's due to Fiorentina's well organized play that he looks as good as he does. Their play allows Gobbi to come into a lot of space and get a lot of touches.

Ujfalusi is much better than Gamberini.
Both are excellent and either would improve our backline immensly.

yeah Dominic why you didn't answer? you can't??? how long are you planning to run?? you can run but you can't hide.

- About the winger discussion. Speed can mask a winger's lack of quality, but in tight games or when it matters such a player will be caught out for being a miserable player.

Was anyone else extremely impressed by Cueller. I have to say, I wouldn't mind seeing this guy in a Juve shirt at all. Absolutely sublime defender.
i was going to say that today, i have watched Cuellar all season and he is superb! Too good for Rangers and the SPL.

He holds the Rangers defence together and the whole reason that they can play such negative football is because he is there.

He was scouted by Man Utd. before he joined Rangers and was the SPL player of the year this season.

I have been wondering all season if he could play for a top team and i think his performances in Europe show that he can.

walcott is the player i want so bad at juve
i would take you seriously on that point but by being called CROUCHiNHO i just can't :p

Cuellar can only be truly effective when playing in a defence that sits deep.

When he played against Aberdeen he has looked very shaky when Rangers tried to push up which left him exposed against our fast forwards.

He could step up a level, but he would need a pacy CB partner.

i don't know, the way he reads the game makes up for any lack in pace and its not as though he is slow!

A good defender doesn't need pace..but if he looks shaky against players that just use pace, imagine what someone inventive or technical would do to him..

I'll be honest, I have only see him perform in the Uefa cup since I don't watch the Scottish league. In the couple of games I have seen him play in, he has looked very solid. You guys have seen a lot more games for him than me so you're probably right.

I avoid watching SPL games that don't involve Aberdeen.

Juve Rev, I'm hardly neutral on him though, so I may be being somewhat harsh in my judgement.

I certainly don't want any huns at Juve.

I was a happy to get rid of Boumsong because of his Rangers connections as I was to get rid of him for his incompetence.
