International career
Villa made his national debut on the 9Th of February 2005 in Almeria, it was a match between Spain and San Marino where Spain won 5-0.
Villa was included in Spain's 23 man squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, and was favoured over the more established striker Raúl, to line up alongside Fernando Torres in the opening match against Ukraine. Villa made his first World Cup finals appearance scoring twice against Ukraine. He added one more from the penalty spot in Spain's 1-3 defeat to France in a Round of 16 knock-out match. He finished joint top goal scorer for Spain along with Fernando Torres in World Cup 2006 with 3 goals.
Recently, on March 23, 2007, Villa scored in a 2-1 win over Denmark.
Valencia
Valencia parted with over £8 million to secure his services in the summer of 2005.
In the 2005-06 season, he scored
25 goals in 35 league matches for Valencia, to finish one goal behind the leagues top scorer Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona. He scored his first hat-trick for Valencia against Athletic Bilbao on the 23rd April 2006.
It is currently rumoured that English FA Premier League team Chelsea F.C. are interested in purchasing David Villa from Valencia CF, though officially there has been no contact from, or offer by Chelsea FC. Valencia have warned any interested clubs that they will only let Villa go if his £100 million buy out clause is met. Valencia president, Juan Soler, however, has told the press they have no intention of selling Villa; but if any club were interested they could sit down and negotiate a price. There was reportedly a failed £15 million transfer bid by Chelsea in the summer of the 2005-06 season. If Chelsea were to sign Villa for the current asking price it would make it the most expensive transfer fee in the world.

I would love Juve to sign him but I realise it is unlikely. Valencia will not want to part with him and we could never out-bid Chelski, but I'm not sure Chelsea will go for him. Look at there last two major signings, Ballack and Sheva. They were both flops and I think if they paid huge money for Villa he would be under to much pressure (especially from the English media) and if he didn't play brilliantly straight away Jose Mourinho would be critiscised aswell, and I don't think he can take much more critiscism before he gets sacked.
So if Chelsea don't go for him, then maybe we will be able to buy him. I can always dream.
