:agree: modric is a really neat player, the Croatian Cruijff if you will.
However we have giovinco, we don't need a another young AM unless he was going to play LAM and giovinco was to play as a SS.
That's why I'm annoyed that we supposedly had xabi wanting to come to us and us turning him away.
Just two examples..

Camoranesi Sissoko Modric Nedved

Or

Sissoko Zanetti
Camoranesi Modric Giovinco

And with Camo's injury woes of late, an alternative with some technique and ability to control a game's tempo is welcome. As such you could easily fit Giovinco and Modric in one line-up, if you desperately want to do so.

Have you ever seen Modric if you think he can only play AM and competes directly with Giovinco? They arent similar at all.

Modric can be both a regista ala Pirlo, but mostly like Deco, a very hardworking creative engine who runs the tempo of the team as a CM (and AM too, he is quite complete mofo). Gio is borderline forward, a trequartista who plays in the last 30ms or so (while is Modric further down). Him and Modric can co-exist to say the LEAST. Just like how Deco and Messi could co-exist.

I rate him very highly, I would take him at almost any price, his potential is enormous. Just a few problems:
Since when will we play with formation 1, we always play with 2 dm's
Formation 2 will most probably ever happen if we stick with CR.
Shows how with 1 signing how potentaily good we could be but with our management are holding us back.

Modric is the savor of the month and all but if Bastian is free then we must get him and get him fast. You find a replacement for Neddy and later for Camo.

ok I concede your point, modric is nice as a cm he has good strength and agression whilst making use of his excellent vision and passing ability, but ask yourselves this, how likely will this ever be? Sure it's nice to dream but it's no use thinking of flying when our feet are cemented into the ground.

We should be able to get Bastian for 3 m at most in January. Modric would probably cost us ~20 m.

Tiago to be sold in January. Ekdal loaned out.

What about Rakitic, by the way?

Wether they will sign him or not is not the issue, I hope we do, but doubt it. Just saying what type of player he is because you thought he might not be signed due to competing for a spot with Gio. That would be far from the reason (he is a very tactically astute and complete midfielder, not strong, but very hardworking, would do the regista role while playing with AMs without being a liability).

The reason would most likely be the high price. If Modric makes a fuss, then perhaps we could push for it, but in general, would be too costly despite his quality.

No strength is his weakest point actually :p.
If you mean not brute strenght enough, then you are correct. But he knows how to use the strenght he has, he is someone very hard to take the ball from, and can dish it out (seen him do it enough to be suprised of the little guy), not really prone to being bullied despite his build. Good at covering the ball, and giving his due in physical challenges.
