It depends on how you define ambition. If attaining the CL spot next season is the ambition, then he certainly is good enough.Though yes,he isnt someone who'd hold our defenceline succesfully when we go back into european football.
And even in Serie A. Comparing him to the regular defenders in the Serie A top teams, you'll find that he isn't as good as them; Materazzi, Nesta, Bonera, Stendardo, etc...

Maybe I'm a little bit harsh in my judgment, but, I haven't watched anything convincing of him so far this term. He was better in the previous couple of seasons though.

I didn't notice that he was the one who passed it to Zaccardo. No problem, it happens with me a lot.

Actually, I'm not completely against Barzagli, but to classify him as being the saviour, the leader and the defender whom everybody are fighting for is an exaggeration. For example, that was the opinion of the yesterday's commentator, a little bit weird, wasn't it?
:agree: I think that with the absense of Corini in the defence, all the pressure has been on Barzagli to do well, especially considering that he is now wearing the captain's arm band. The problem is that when Palermo do well, he does well. When they suck, he sucks. I agree, he is far from a leader.

He does lack leadership skills, and he is by no means a long term solution to our defensive problems. But he is good enough to help us get into the CL next season.A lot of it is obviously down to Serie A's declining standard obviously, and not just his own skills.

Actually, I see other available options which are better than that Barzagl's one. We already have Criscito, also Canini is a promising young defender. What do you think, any suggestions?

I don't think Criscito has played in Serie A or any major competitions yet..that would be the only thing that worries me.

Most probably, he won't be a starter in the next season. We'll have an idea about him when we watch him more, so we have to be patient. On the other hand, I like Chiellini as a centre back more and I think that the presence of an experienced defender alongside him will benefit him and Criscito as well. But I'm not with Chiellini + Barzagli partnership nor Chiellini + Criscito partnership too.

I like Chielleni as a CB..The first names that come to mind as far as the experienced CB is concerned are Heinze,Cannavaro and Samuel.Id be happy with any of them.I also think that the Juventus management should go all out for William Gallas. He can play in any position in the defence, and he's an extremley solid defender.

Buffon
Grygera Barzagli Heinze Chiellini
Camoranesi Frings Almiron Nedved
Trezeguet Del Piero

this is what i think juve's starting 11 will look like next year. i would love to add Ribery to that lineup but in a lot of interviews he stresses that he wants to play in the Champions League and he wont get that with juve for about another 2 years.

The formation is fine, but i would like to see Momo in our squad, or Alex

actually thats the only thing that keeps me hoping that we might have the next best defender.
btw if we cant afford to buy players like Cristiano or Quaresma we should find sum1 who can stop them.
