Mexes is slow. Imo no quality defender can swallow 7 goals in a game. the Roma keeper was woeful but the defenders rarely put a block in, whereas the ManU defenders blocked almost everything.
He aint crap but he is not Juve quality.
If Heinze is available he did be a better option.

I'm not a hauge fan of either Mexes or Chivu but I think Mexes was the best of Romas defenders last night. The main problem was that the defence was left totally exposed by the midfield. Also Man U are totally unstoppable at the moment.

dnt think i agree with you there, i would say Utd. are off form and haven't really been playing well for a bout a month now. They were well beaten by Portsmouth and Ronaldo has been holding them together. But Sir Awex was never going to lose 3 games in a row and i expected Utd to beat roma comfortably (altho not as easy as 7-1)

Ferguson got his tactics spot on for playing an Italian team, he got Utd. playing at a very fast pace and was always trying to stretch Roma wide and not let them counter. But i agree with you the roma midfield did nothing to help the defence

I'm a big fan of Chivu, not so sure on Mexes

Guys don't only judge from last night.Chivu and Mexes are very good defenders, who are still young and IMO they will be even better in the future. In the game against United they were totally exposed from their midfield and they had a goalkeeper who is a joke behind them.Even the best defenders are nothing if they have not the cover from their defensive midfielders.Totti was awful too, this does not mena that he is not a good player.

Serie a's problem with pace was highlighted again agaisnt utd.

Roma's midfield offered no protection to the back four with nobody really holding the ball up, United kept on attacking thanks to nothing really going forward. The entire team was shite. To be fair the goals Utd scored werent entire due to either chivu or Mexes making a hash of things.

Mexes is swings and roundabouts for me. Sometimes i think he is brilliant, but then he can go threw useless patches.

Chivu is class but not strong in strength or pace.

However both walk all over out current CB's.

Oh and Utd arent unstoppable, they wanted revenge agaisnt Roma, Fergie would have had them fired up. They did lose to pompey the other day.

I think it had more to do with everything going in and Roma having an unusually terrible game than English vs Italian football or United being a team of greek gods or anything like that

it was simply a very ... very bad day at the office for Roma

like suicide bad

Not convinced.

Utd wanted it more. Going forward mancini was a ball greedy git, Wilhemson wasnt even registering, Totti was at his arrogant lazy worst. Pizzaro and de rossi were mediocre but couldnt run the entire field for the useless forwards. Panucci and Cassetti got murdered for pace.

Doni was like all world class brazilian goalies.

"bad" days at the ofice happen for a reason.

Philippe Mexès

Team: A.S. Roma (Italy)
Nickname: Philou, Le Laurent Blond
Position: Centreback
Number: 5
Date of Birth: March 30, 1982
Nationality: French
Height: 187 cm
Weight: 82 kg

Profile:
Philippe Mexès (born March 30, 1982 in Toulouse, France) is a French professional football (soccer) player, who currently plays as a centreback for Italian club A.S. Roma.

Philippe Mexès began his career with local club Toulouse FC, with his older sister regularly taking him to the training sessions. However, he left for AJ Auxerre's youth team when he was sixteen years old. He successfully participated in the Under-18 and Under-21 French national football teams, eventually winning a spot in the senior squad in August 2002. Since 2002 he has only been called up a few times, after he failed to make the French squad for the 2004 European Football Championship. He was recently called up for France's friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina in August 2006.

Mexès is currently one of the backbones of the A.S. Roma team coached by Luciano Spalletti. After a difficult first season with the capitoline club, Mexès began the 2005-06 campaign on the bench, leaving the central defender spot to Sammy Kuffour. However, as Kuffour was on national team duty for Ghana, Mexès slowly gained playing time. He quickly became a key player in the record-breaking Roma campaign and he was widely considered one of the best defenders of the competition. His performances as a defender have seen him likened to Laurent Blanc, another French footballer.

Years Club App (Gls)*
1999-04 AJ Auxerre 133 (7)
2004- A.S. Roma 70 (4)

Honours:

- France Football "Hope of the Year": 2000

Why I want him at Juve:
He has the potential to be a great player. Also, one of the best CB's in Serie A at the moment. Good ball control, fast, and pretty young.

Simao Sabrosa

Simão Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa, OIH, commonly known as Simão Sabrosa or just Simão (born 31 October 1979 in Constantim, Portugal), is a Portuguese football winger who plays for SL Benfica (where he is the team captain) and the Portuguese national team.

Simão is a very quick wing forward/attacking midfielder with a fast dribble and a taste for scoring decisive goals. He has a very refined technique, can play on both sides of the pitch, and is an expert penalty and free kick taker. Agostinho Oliveira, Simão's former coach in the youth national team, has been quoted as saying that Simão's fundamental weapon is his ability to control the ball at full speed, and that while there may be other players who are equally fast or equally gifted technically, few manage to master both abilities so well.

National team

Simão's path to the national team began when he won the European Under-16 Championship, in 1996. In the following year, he began playing for the under-18 team, moving on to become a regular in the under-21 team in 1998. Simão made his debut for the national team at the senior level at 19 years of age, on November 12, 1998, against Israel. He came on for Rui Costa and scored one of the goals in the 2-0 win.

Simão was not present in the 2002 World Cup due to injury, but he did participate in the 2004 European Championship, where Portugal finished in second place. His most notable appearance during Euro 2004 came against England in the quarter-finals. He came on as a second half substitute and assisted the equalizing goal in the late minutes of the game to bring the game into extra time. Simão also scored a penalty during the shootout which Portugal won.

In the 2006 World Cup, Simão scored a penalty kick on the 24th minute against Mexico. Portugal won that game 2-1. Again, on 1 July, in the quarter final, Portugal and England went into extra time and then a penalty shoot out. Simão scored another penalty for Portugal and Portugal won the shoot out 3-1.

Clubs

Simão started as a professional player for Sporting in the 1996–1997 season, having scored in his debut match, one minute after being substituted in. He stayed in the team for three years, having moved to FC Barcelona in the summer of 1999 on a €15 million transfer. In 2001, after a comparatively low-key tenure at the Spanish club, Simão moved to his current team, SL Benfica, on a deal reportedly worth €12 million. He is currently the captain of the team, and is considered one of the best players currently playing in the Portuguese championship.

Since he arrived at Benfica, Simão has always ended seasons as the best goalscorer of the squad. He has scored a total of 72 goals in 172 matches for Benfica, an extraordinary record for a winger. He has written 2 books and recently launched a DVD teaching children how to play football.

Simão has also played a big role at SL Benfica where he scored a magnificent free kick against Manchester United and a beautiful goal against defending champions Liverpool FC helping to knock out the defending champions. Many speculate that Simão refused a move to Liverpool after what many consider a dislike of Rafael Benitez.

The summer 2005 transfer window saw Simão targeted by English Premiership club Liverpool FC in an offer worth approximately €12 million, though negotiations reportedly failed over Benfica's increase in asking price.

Just before the 2006 summer transfer window, Simão revealed that Luis Felipe Vieira, the president of Benfica, would allow him to leave, if a suitable offer were made. Chelsea emerged as possible contenders for his signature, but José Mourinho declined these rumours. He was also linked with a move to Valencia, after the club cooled their interest in his Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo However, Arsenal have emerged as the player's latest suitors and sources claim that they have bid €18 million for the player. Despite all the transfer rumours, Simão says that "the soap opera to sign me is over. I'm a Benfica player and that is the end of it." This was said alongside Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira at a UEFA meeting. During the January 2007 transfer window, he may be targeted by Atletico Madrid, but he has denied these rumours. the english giant manchester united have also shown interest in the portuguse player.

i would like to see this guy with juve, as well as Van Der Vaart but hes already on this topic anyway

u are being harsh i think really three players were responisble for most of the damage.. Chivu, Doni and mexes

Totti played decent enough considering he could not sprint cuz of his nerve problem. Pizarro was useless at defending and vucinic was terrible as a striker.

I think if they had Taddie on the left and mancini on the right with Perotta playing Roma would have been much better.

the fact doni is so garbage and can't cover his near post also does not help. Chivu played the worst game i have ver seen from him, he got out of the way of the ball so many times.

Anyway if i could bring mexes to Juve I would. One game means nothing.
