He played it reak well, but anyone in this quite lucky conditions should do the same, he knows he is investigated and will die the NEXT day, not tonight because luckily enough the detective is jailed and cant speak against him. Stating this and getting the BG in the coup is easy enough. The clever part was figuring out Fred, might have been just someone who suspected him, even in hindsight, Fred makes too eager of a point.

What safer options ffs? He has found out about a G, he knew that the crooked cop probably knows that he had investigated Alen. He simply had to blaze the gun (to prove that he is the detective), killing Alen and asking the BG to protect him. It was by far the safest option.

Fred getting jailed just made the things ridiculously easy for Alen.

At the end I was split between myself and you but I made the wrong choice.
