So it's better that we got knocked out from CL now because we could have faced Bayern and co in the Knockout stages, but it'd be cool if we faced Tottenham, Benfica or others in EL? As if it's a given that we would win against these teams. We could have also came up against United or PSG which I think we could have won against.
No matter how you put it, it's a big disappointment.
Best Scenario: Make it past second round in CL.
Second Best Scenario: Make it to the finals of the EL.
Third Best Scenario: Make it to the second round of the CL.
Worst Scenario: Crash out before the final of the EL.
So, yeah, we're not in a good position, but given that we are clear favorites to win the EL, and given that the final is at home, then I would prefer scenario 2 to scenario 3, which I think would be a massive disappointment. And here's the thing. It would have been very probable that we would have crashed out in the second round. Unless we got a very favorable draw against one of United, or PSG, who are both excellent teams, we would be big underdogs to go any further.
So what situation are we in now? If we take this competition seriously, and I stress the if here, then we could have a very successful season, overall. Keep in mind, that I, and many other Juve fans, would have felt very different about this if we had lost our first place in the group, to end up finishing third. In that case, it would have certainly been a huge disappointment. However, given this specific scenario, given we lost second place, it's bad, but really not that bad.
