Applying for jobs in the Middle East. Fun Fun Fun.
I love how Aramco breaks it down on their website. "If you don't have at least 5 years experience then don't apply.
I respect their decision and their point of view, but every company usually hires new graduates. You need young blood Aramco

thanks bro, if you hear about a chemistry job/ QC or R&D chemist researcher let me know :D
I live in kuwait, so I have already also sent my CV and cover letter to my family there. I also applied for a research institute in Kuwait. I have filled on-line application for a company in Dubai
(SGS), also Sabic in Saudi Arabia, and Kahrmaa in Qatar. The only issue is that not alot of companies are interested in hiring entry level. Although I have 4 years research and teaching assistant experience during my PhD, but I am not sure how companies in our countries look at it.

What would you suggest/recommend/advise me during the job hunting process? Something you learned during that period in the 60's when you got your university degree :p which could have made a difference.

P.S I started looking for jobs early, eventhough I have half a year inshallah to be done:xfinger:

You need Wasta :) :) A simple and straigh forward one word advice :D
Few make their own luck around here.

Maybe Fred can help if they are looking for something at University. Something to start with maybe as I don't have much experience in chemistry job apart fgrom a Uni Lab or Hospital work.

:agree:
that's why I got my family working on this now! At the same time I am filling an application of a different company everyday, eventhough I know I need wasta.
The whole family is a work force trying to hook me up, all my siblings graduated and got jobs there, and it was about wasta. So I keep texting my sisters and brother to keep looking, they probably going to block my number very soon:D

Oh yeah Fred, forgot he knows about the universities there.

It's an Arabic thing. it doesn't matter where you get your degree from and what are your qualifications. What a shame

I heard too, but now my family just an hour ago told me to forget about looking for jobs and just focus on finishing up. They will get a wasta to hire me. It's a shame people need such things to get hired. I wouldn't mind working in Gulf, I was born there and lived all my life until I moved to Canada to attend university

Great song. Fairuz is a Goddess.

Oh, I hate Wasta. The other day my mum told me I could get a driving license without a need of driving exam or anything just have to pay some money, I refused. Things feel much better when you do them yourself without the help of anybody. Wasta is disgusting, I've seen some of my friends fail to go into the Universities they want despite being good at school why others with much worse marks get the chance to go to Universities thanks to Wasta. I agree, such a shame that sometimes (sometimes? more like most of the time) you'd a wasta to be successful in life.

Your family is right, finish first then think about a job later. And Oh if you don't min living the in the Gulf it's great, you'd get shedload of money working there.

I totally agree with you, and the thing is, those aren't going away anytime soon. It looks like wasta has became an essential part of our society

it depends how you use it. I went to pay a fine in another city. stayed in the Q and waited and when I went there, the guy was like you need to open a file with us to pay the fine. To do that I need a shitload of paper work and I drove from way far. Bil wasta, I paid the fine but without the paperwork stuff done!
heck! I might have also removed that ticket all together.

Water-Food-Wasta The things you'd die without them in the Arabic world.

Stuff like this are acceptable. I got my '5edmet 2l 3alam' thing quicker thanks to wasta, but when someone who's less educated than you get's to go to a University while you don't because of Wasta it's really disgusting.
