I think that the preparation processes of both Arak and Raki are the same with some little differences.
Yes Thats the truth. I just searched on net and i found that this drink was first made in Iraq and it's name it's ought to this country:

Iraq -> Iraqi -> raqi -> Raki.

But the name "Arak" isn't related to "Raki". As Arak itself means "Sweat" in Arabic, I mean it might be related to that, not to Iraq, just an assumption.

Here are the theories of the name of this drink:

In the near and middle east countries the drink is known by different names such as Araka, Araki, Ariki which obviously come from the same origin. Some claim that it is called Iraqi (from Iraq) because it was first made in this country and spread to other regions. Others say it got its name from the razaki grapes used in producing it. Both theories are acceptable. Another theory is that arak in Arabic means "sweat" and araki "that which makes one sweat." If one drinks too much raki one does sweat sometimes and when raki is being distilled it falls drop by drop like sweat, so the name could have come from Arabic.

I see. Thats not a bad thing. But you never tried drinking? or you tried and was never into it?
Man, I didn't even try to drink tea, oh, wait...maybe I tried it once. :D

Seriously, even when I've been to England, I didn't think about trying it. Not just for being religious, but...I didn't think about it before.

95% of my friends are smokers, but I never tried to smoke as well. You said it, when you stick to your beliefs, rarely you'll get affected by the external environment, whatever your beliefs are. Of course, I'm not talking about just one's religious beliefs, but also about one's own beliefs, generally. :)
