Yes,they're our biggest rival though they ain't that strong anymore.
thats a big say.. lets wait forRami and see what he says about that :D

but i do agee with you, Saudi is not as strong as it used to be... Curently i think Qatar and Oman are the toughest two teams to beat, then you've got Saudi.. Bahraih have slumped big time since its highly successful Asian cup in 2004. What goes for saudi goes for Kuwait as well.

Lebanon has a pretty good team, it lacks funding though... plus we must not forget the number of Lebanon-born players who opted to flee their country and play their wonders some where else.

However i do recall someone by the name of Antar ( a lebanese player) is he any good?

Oman has more talents than any other Arab team.

Roda Antar I guess.he may be the most famous Lebanes player.he's playing for Freiburg and scored this week against Lautern.I think he is the ex-player of Hamburg.

:agree: .. Their players are pretty awesome given the lack of funding they get.. The best thing about the Omani team is that it has been the same bunch of boys since their youth days.. The federation managed to make up this team since they were youngsters, their most noteably was when they came fourth in the world youth cup in 1995 i think it was.

well Bahrain r playing Kuwait on the next international break.....winner goes through to the Asian Cup

Bahrain team is at its worst, we haven't won an official game since i dont know when and if the officials had any they would let the new coach find some new blood for the team.....But NOO ofcourse they just want their preferred players to play.

anyway it would be an interesting game imo

also talk about rivalries....Bahrain and Saudi is a big one there imo.

To be honest with you, i dont think Kuwait has any chance.. They are just not good enough. As for the Bahrainis, they do have the cutting edge due to the harmony between their players. They've played together for quite a while now. plus the game is gonna be in Manama (if im not mistaken).

Talking of rivelries:
Saudi v Kuwait
Bahrain v Saudi
Oman v UAE
Iraq v Kuwait

:howler:

cant wait till Rami comes here..

But i guess you do have a point, since Saudi football has always promised to give alot, but failed several times specially internationally... The main problem in Saudi is the absence of players playing outside SA.. There is only ONE saudi player playing outside SA (in Qatar) and thats it.

I have seen lots of comments about Saudi here, and sadly most of them have some level of truths in them. There are so many problems in Saudi football I don't even know where I should start! The country HAS talents, everybody knows that, but thats about it! Development of youth? We never heard of that! Our youth are developed in the alleys, where dribbling and football trickery is developed, but not a proper football mentality, physique, stamina...etc.

As Muha said, one of our major problems is that we don't have players playing outside (namely Europe). I never thought that having so much money would be such a problem. Lets take the example of Yasser Al-Qahtani, this player could play in Europe, he is young and he talented, but no one is gonna pay on such an unproven youngster. In summer 2005 the two Saudi clubs Ittihad and Hilal got into a price war, and Yasser's price was driven up to 40 Million Riyals (around $10 Million). No club in Europe will pay that much for an unproven player, or am I mistaken??

The players themselves seem to have high expectations and want them met as soon as they get first team action. The concept of "paying their dues" is totally foreign to them.

Anyways this subject really depresses me, I think the Saudi team is running currently on reputation, we kicked S. Korea's ass home and away last qualifiers, but when you look closer, one must wonder how?

Oh and Muha, trust me the Saudi vs. Bahrain tie is far from a rivalry, don't flatter yourself:p

I think you should add Saudi vs. UAE to the list of Arab rivalries as well. They're still bitter over the Asian cup final PK shoot-out of 1996. Personally, I'm still bitter...coz that year Iran deserved it more than Saudi and UAE put together! :( (no I'm not Persian, it was the first time ever I'd seen Iran play at that time, and they were by far the most entertaining team of the tournament)

For that matter I think Saudi vs. anyone from the Gulf including Iran = rivalry.

I don't want to start anything racially or politically controversial, but most non-Saudi khaleejis I've met, hate Saudis for some reason. Especially here in the Emirates.

I believe that this is the general relationship between all arabs, a love-hate relationship, not a Saudi specific thing....

Kuwait just beat the Socceroos in kuwait a while ago, the Socceroos beat Bahrain in Manama with their 2nd string team.

imo kuwait have the upper hand, most notably better preparation. The full squad for Bahrain didnt train together yet ffs.
And also playing in Manama has been a curse these days.Every crucial/non crucial game played there was lost.

sorry mate but for 95% of Bahrain think otherwise. Last Khaleej cup when bahrain beat saudi 3-0, nobody even cared that the team lost the tournament that they should've won. Everyone was like "beating the saudis is better than any cup"

Could the hatred be rooted in religious or secterian roots, and not football rivalry. Like say Iran-KSA or Japan-KSA??
